    Summary



    This is a Pharmacist Associate Service Chief position located in Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FXHCC). The incumbent is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating comprehensive pharmacy activities at the FXHCC.

    Pharmacy Associate Service Chief, duties for this position include but not limited to:

    • The incumbent establishes and implements long and short-term plans, polices, and procedures, assuring that clinical and administrative programs are integrated to provide high quality patient care with optimum utilization of health care system resources. Is cognizant of and ensures that all patient care programs are in compliance with the standards of accrediting and regulatory bodies.
    • Develop, evaluate, adjust, and prioritize program, budget allocations and administrative processes in order to accomplish the mission of the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FXHCC).
    • The FXHCC Pharmacy Section Chief will have prime responsibility for providing pharmaceutical services to the Veteran patients served by the FXHCC for the professional and administrative activities supporting these services.
    • Supervise, activities of all pharmacy staff including supervisors, pharmacists, technicians, and clerical staff.
    • Prepare, estimate, and justifiy the annual budget requirements based on quarterly monetary needs for medications, supplies, equipment, and personnel.
    • Recruit, interview, and select suitable personnel, in collaboration with Human Resources, to maintain a staff that can effectively fulfill the needs of the FXHCC pharmacy section. Recommends individuals for appointment, promotion, and reassignment involving such positions.
    • Develop and document employee performance. Evaluate work performance of employees under his/her supervision. Provides disciplinary action when necessary. Resolves employee conflicts and complaints. Promotes a pleasant work environment.
    • Rewards exemplary performance, and counsels technicians and pharmacists. Completes annual performance appraisals, competency assessments, award recommendations, etc. within dictated time frames.
    • Coordinates the professional and clinical aspects of the medication management program.
    • Promotes staff participation in the maintenance and review of Patient Medication Records, Laboratory Test, Patient Medication counseling, Patient Medication Interview, physician rounding, weekly charts review, nursing lectures and continuing education programs.
    • Development of new clinical program, the maintenance of appropriate quality patient care and in providing quality assurance assessments and medication usage evaluation, through performance improvement quality assurance program.
    • Participates as a member of a Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
    • Develops post PharmD teaching program, i.e., ASHP Accredited Residency Training Program.
    • Oversees the conduct of pharmaceutical research related to improving usefulness of preparations: improving taste, developing new dosage form to meet varied demands of clinical investigators, or other members of the professional staff.
    • New patient care programs must be evaluated to ensure quality of care, optimum reimbursement to the FXHCC, and enhancement of educational and research activities without compromising VA missions and goals.
    • Ensure that all drugs are stored in a secure area.
    • Observes proper safeguarding of all electronic files, computer access/verify codes and all applicable laws, rules, policies, and regulations concerning ADP security.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.

    Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases when setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

    Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

    Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

    Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

    Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
