Job summary
This position plans, designs, directs, estimates inspects and analyzes the installation construction alteration operation and/or repair of very complex mechanical structural electrical environmental electronic and/or computer based systems in new and/or existing facilities projects campus-wide; provides conceptual planning prepares cost estimates of campus-wide interactive large-scale alterations new construction projects actively manages a heavy load of ongoing projects provides design plans specifications for campus-wide interactive projects oversees manages all aspects of project management which include inspection reviews alterations procurement improvements construction projects order to ensure compliance with university standards any other regulatory requirements; answers customer concerns regarding construction costs acts as public relations liaison MSU stakeholders reviews approves project payment applications also approves authorizes payments State Michigan prepares complex technical reports detailed cost studies interviews evaluates schedules recommends employment employees recommends internal skilled trades personnel specialized projects negotiates outside contractors where needed meets screens new suppliers also schedules required State inspections maintains data records internal systems defines own goals objectives University strategy has great latitude exercise independent judgment make decisions few existing guidelines full budget responsibility autonomy manage project from cradle grave directs activities university management non-management employees assigned projects manage campus emergencies 24/7.

40% Manage assigned very complex multi-craft projects Planon including plan design estimate project management engineering compliance applicable codes procurement inspection technical reports closeout
20% Provide customers design ideas cost effective solutions plan departmental budget needs requires excellent communication skills customer service
20% Provide technical support detailed drawings Maintenance Skilled Trades Supervisors Labor Staff engineers customers Also includes contracted labor
10% Procure/purchase material Maintenances Services staff members Provide management material open order labor during campus emergencies Prepares complex technical reports cost studies acts public liaison IPF campus customers questions complaints construction costs facility issues Correspondence email training meetings professional development This position will engage high performing leading edge practices valuing people partners stewardship.
