    Our site near Culpeper, VA, in beautiful, rural Orange County (1.5 hours from Washington, DC) is growing This site is our center of excellence for Solid Rocket Motor Propulsion and Energetics development as well as high-complexity production programs.


    Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks a Specialsit, Materials and Process Engineer (Propulsion Engineer/Chemist) to support the Propulsion Materials and Process Engineering team in our site near Culpeper, in rural Orange County, Virginia, 1+ hour drive from Washington DC.


    This individual performs assignments requiring an application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the propulsion field with a working knowledge of other related disciplines (thermal, structural, ballistics).

    Responsible for leading (technical), organizing (cost and schedule), and implementing tasks directed by a Technical Manager (Department Manager, Technical Fellow, or equivalent) and providing chemical guidance.

    Specifying chemical testing, evaluation of data, and preparing and presenting reports of results are typical of the job function.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


    Reporting directly to the Manager, Materials and Process, this individual performs assignments requiring an application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the propulsion field with an emphasis on propellant chemistry technologyand manufacturing with a working knowledge of other related disciplines (ballistic, thermal and structural).

    Experience in process control, lean manufacturing best practices, and manufacturing operations experience of items such as propellants, explosives and liners is desired.


    REQUIREMENTS


    Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering and 4 years of directly related technical experience in energetic materials (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

    Master's or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering or related science discipline preferred.
    Knowledge of chemical principles, thermodynamics, polymer chemistry, structure/property relationships, kinetics, and data analysis is essential.
    Experience with energetic materials, statistical analysis, programming and experimental set-up and data acquisition is a plus.
