    Founded in 1952, Norwood School is a coeducational, independent day school with approximately 450 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

    Norwood has an opening for an experienced, dynamic, child-centered educator to support literacy instruction in grades 5-8.

    The literacy coordinator teaches three reading/language arts or English classes across grades 5-8 and supports teachers in all departments to develop and implement best practices in literacy instruction.

    They collaborate with teachers to offer individual and small group reading and writing support and enrichment; they also collaborate with teachers and the learning specialist to implement and support intervention plans for students in reading and writing.

    The literacy coordinator administers reading assessments as appropriate and examines data to measure the success of literacy programs and instruction.

    They also perform other duties as assigned.

    Ideally, applicants should have five years of working with middle school aged students in literacy-related areas. A background in phonics-based instruction through programs like Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading, etc. is preferred. Bachelor's degree required, advanced course work in literacy instruction preferred.
