    Registered Nurse Essential Job Functions:
    Provides direct patient care to pediatric through geriatric patient populations.
    Addresses the psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment.
    Ability to interact and respond with various patient behaviors in a therapeutic, gentle and friendly manner
    Communicates reassurances and explanations consistently
    Adapts nursing procedures to meet the needs for treatment of various types of patients
    Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner
    Ability to assess cardiorespiratory systems for changes in patient condition and respond appropriately
    Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications; takes appropriate actions
    Carries out surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures and uses PPE.
    Uses appropriate techniques for safe administration of medications and parenteral fluids.
    Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions, and side effects.
    Medicates postoperative patient as needed after pain assessment and evaluation of patient's condition.
    Counts narcotics at the beginning and end of each day with another nurse, per policy.
    Coordinates and supervises patient care
    Provides education to patient and family regarding care
    Protects patient's right to privacy
    Sensitive to patient needs
    Maintains composure and appropriately responds to patients in an emergency or physically distressful situation

    Provides innovative input into the development of the hospital environments and its processes

    Specific Nursing Roles at Summit Surgical
    Pre Operative Registered Nurse

    Position Summary:
    Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting. Communicates with physicians, nursing management, and coworkers as appropriate about changes in patient's clinical condition. This includes results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatments.

    Additional Essential Job Functions:
    Checks medical records for requirements of completeness prior to surgery. History and physical, pertinent lab reports, EKG reports and NPO status.
    Obtains documents and assesses vital signs preoperatively.
    Teaches patients about postoperative pain management and using the pain scale.
    PACU Registered Nurse

    Position Summary:
    Responsible for monitoring patient's physiological status in the immediate preoperative environment. Communicates with surgeon and anesthesia, and as needed, about patient conditions; receives direction for patient management. Intercedes to maintain optimum homeostasis.

    Additional Essential Job Functions:
    Demonstrates knowledge of perioperative factors that alter immediate postoperative phase.
    Ability to assess cardiorespiratory systems for changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
    Obtains documents and assesses the vital signs every ten (10) minutes during phase 1 recovery.

    Additional Preferred Experience:
    One year of ICU or PACU experience
    OR Circulating Registered Nurse

    Position Summary:

    Addresses and promotes the physical and mental health of patients by utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation.

    Effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and providers while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

    Assess operating room for equipment functioning and readiness, obtains supplies for individual cases, and ensures all needs of surgical operating team are met.

    Monitors, positions, and assists patient during procedure.

    Additional Essential Job Functions:
    Preps patients for procedures correctly and per policy
    Appropriately & safely positions patients while under care
    Carries out surgical asepsis and safely administers medications for all procedures
    Prepares and cleans operating room suites before and after cases
    Ability to set up for surgical procedures
    Ensures required pre-op information is available before patient is taken to surgery
    Accurately records, handles, and labels specimens

    Additional Preferred Experience:
    One (1) year of work experience in the operating room preferred


    Requirements:


    Registered Nurse Essential Qualifications:
    Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Kansas
    Current BLS certification
    Minimum of one (1) year work experience
    Current ACLS certification or willing to obtain within three (3) months
    Maintains regulatory requirements and completes annual education requirements
    Attends the required annual education program
    Can interface with computers effectively
    Learns new concepts and procedures quickly
    Excellent organizational skills
    Accuracy
    Ability to manage time and appropriately prioritize tasks and responsibilities
    Ability to communicate effectively and in a professional and courteous manner with co-workers, vendors and other people in contact with

    Requirements:

    Ability to perform lab testing per lab policies and procedures

    Ability to interpret results of test:
    take appropriate action on test results
    Knowledge of storage, care and use of each specific cartridge
    Knowledge of quality control testing monthly or with each new shipment and proficiency test
