    Description

    Under supervision of the Sports Coordinator, assists in providing excellent service in all aspects of recreational sporting activities and programing located within the C.O.R.E. (Center of Recreational Excellence).
    Essential Duties

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Leads and assists activities for youth and adult programs and events.
    • Provides clear instruction, coaching, and officiating for facility programs including sport programs and camps.
    • Monitors and facilitates a fun, entertaining, safe and clean environment.
    • Organizes and sets up the equipment that is used in recreational activities.
    • Monitors the sports facilities ensuring safety and compliance with rules.
    • Communicates and enforces program rules and code of conduct.
    • Advises youth and adults regarding rule infraction and consequences. Assists in scheduling activities and use of recreation facility.
    • Keeps records of equipment use and ensures that all equipment works properly.
    • Additional duties include, but are not limited to, greeting, acknowledging and interacting with youth and adults in a friendly manner.
    • Administers basic first aid if needed. Attends staff meeting and trainings as scheduled.
    • Adheres to assigned work schedule and implements the CORE mission and philosophy.
    • Immediately reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors or abuse.
    • May serve on various employee committees, as required and assigned.

Demonstrates self-initiative in performing routine tasks as in accordance with standard operating procedures and standard operating guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and chain of command.

    Minimum Qualifications

    This position is subject to the City of Hobbs' Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing.

    Education and Experience:

    High School diploma or high school equivalency (HSE) required with previous participation in organized sports.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    1. Applicant must be dependable.
    2. Applicant must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
    3. Ability to work in a team atmosphere as well as independently and perform assigned duties with minimal supervision.
    4. Ability to utilize computer skills
    5. Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships
    6. Must have exceptional customer service and communication skills.
    7. Must be proficient in verbal and written communication.
    8. Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    9. Must be able to deal with people under stressful and demanding situations.
    10. Bilingual preferred.
    11. Interest and enthusiasm toward working with youth and adults in a recreational environment.
    12. Basic knowledge of supervision skills for youth and adults in a group setting.
    13. Ability and willingness to learn additional job duties.
    LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS
    1. Valid state issued driver's license preferred.
    2. Ability to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid for adults and children certification.
    SUPERVISION RECEIVED

    Work under the general supervision of the CORE Sports Coordinator and CORE Facility Director.

    Physical Demands & Work Environment

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate controls and reach with upper and lower body and hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk, lightly jog, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may be required to stand up to a four (4) hour period of time.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

    The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud in parts of the facility.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals.
    • The City of Hobbs will provide 80% to 90% Heath Insurance Coverage from Single to Family coverage.
    • Employees are eligible for 100% short-term disability coverage provided by the City of Hobbs.
    • Employer PERA contributions 14.8% for general, 28.775% for HPD, 30.9% for HFD.
    • CDL pay - $6,000 per year (if applicable).
    • PTO accruals start at 12 hours per month (144 hours per year) and progressively increase based on years of service to 20 hours per month (240 hours per year) at year 21.
    • Bilingual Pay - $1,500 dollar incentive per year upon completion of yearly proficiency test.
    • Education Incentive - ($1,000, $4,000, $6,000 dollars - Associates, Bachelor's, Masters; degree must be relevant to position and above the current minimum requirements of the held position).
    • Longevity Pay - Begins at the completion of 10 years of service. Gradually increased.
    • Retention Incentive - $600 incentive yearly with years 1-9 of completed service
    • 13 Paid Holidays.
    • Bereavement Leave - 5 days per calendar year per personnel rules guidelines.
    • Military Leave hours per year for general, per year for HPD, 360 hours per year for HFD).
