Job DescriptionGENERAL SUMMARY
The Fuel Buyer is responsible for procuring biomass for the plant ensuring a reliable and steady fuel supply. Fuel procurement is a critical function that contributes to the overall success of plant operations.
PRIMARY DUTIES
The job duties listed are typical examples of the work performed by the Fuel Buyer. Not all duties assigned to this position are included. The Fuel Buyer may be asked to perform other duties and requirements may vary.
Manage and administer all fuel contracts for the plant
Evaluate and purchase the desired quantity of biomass fuel for the plant
Develop and qualify fuel supplies for the plant using existing and new supply opportunities
Gather market intelligence related to new supply, existing supply and stay abreast of new developments in the wood basin
Optimize spot fuel purchases and contractual commitments to meet plant budget
Negotiate and write both short term and long term fuel supply agreements consistent with company guidelines
Manages biomass fuel supplier relations by influencing and educating suppliers in regard to quality resulting in best cost and quality combination of fuel that meets and exceeds regulations
Maintain communication with plant operations management to ensure that fuel inventories are meeting operations needs and demands
Partner with plant operations management to ensure that procured fuel material is compatible with plant operating and regulatory requirements
Tracks and monitors fuel costs
Review and approve invoices for fuel purchases
Develop and present quarterly and annual fuel reports, including forecasting a fuel procurement budget
Creates reports documenting plant fuel diversion and emissions offset requirements
Other related duties as assigned.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
This is an individual contributor role. The Fuel Buyer position does not manage staff.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Fuel Buyer reports to the Plant Manager and other members of the management team.
Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate degree in forestry, business, economics or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Prior procurement experience required
Experience in wood fuel or biomass, fiber, timber procurement in the paper, lumber or biomass industry is preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel with the ability to generate spreadsheets, reports, and business correspondence.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to gather and analyze information from multiple sources.
Ability to work independently and autonomously with minimal direction
College degree in business or forestry preferred
Must have a valid driver's license with the ability to travel 60% of the time
