- 5+ years of experience in transportation management, logistics, or related field
- Proven experience in managing and motivating a team of dispatchers and drivers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
- Proficient in transportation management software (TMS) and logistics applications
- Working knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and safety procedures
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL)
- Plan, direct, and oversee the daily operations of the transportation department, including, scheduling, dispatching, and routing of deliveries
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of dispatchers and drivers, ensure they understand company policies and procedures
- Develop and implement efficient transportation strategies to minimize delivery times and optimize fleet utilization
- Negotiate and manage contracts with carriers and third-party logistics providers
- Track and monitor transportation costs, identify opportunities for cost reduction
- Ensure all deliveries comply with safety regulations and Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines
- Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules and address any mechanical issues
- Manage and maintain transportation-related documentation and records
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints regarding deliveries
- Collaborate with other departments, such as sales and warehouse, to ensure smooth order fulfillment
- Manage, implement, and improve processes to ensure the business unit has a viable and well-maintained fleet, develop fleet replacement cycles, capital requirements, and priorities of asset re-deployment
- Train appropriate individuals in load securement, vehicle safety procedures, defensive driving, pre- and post-checks, vehicle maintenance, and post-accident procedures
- Interact with drivers daily, answer any questions and ensure drivers can safely operate and understand the operational procedures and are following applicable federal, state, and local laws
- Provide oversight and assistance as it related to process development/improvement, inspections, and compliance, purchasing, tire programs, fleet repairs, maintenance diagnostics, and DOT compliance
- Ensure drivers operate safely at all times
- Perform other tasks as required
