    Who we are: Children’s Aid (CA) is an independent, not-for-profit organization in New York City; our mission is to help children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive supports to children, youth, and their families in targeted high-needs neighborhoods, at more than 40 locations in New York City and in Westchester County.

     What you will be doing: Reporting to the Vice President of the Health and Wellness Division, the Medical Director is responsible for clinical oversight and leadership of Children’s Aid’s healthcare services. Responsibilities include development and implementation of medical policies, directives, rules, regulations and clinical performance standards in alignment with agency bylaws, accrediting bodies and city, state and federal government regulation. Clinical supervision of staff and management of clinical quality assurance initiatives.

    Essential Position Functions and Responsibilities:

    • Lead strategy and implementation of the clinical direction for the Health and Wellness Division.
    • Keep abreast of emerging health care delivery models.
    • Identify opportunities to collaborate and develop clinical integration opportunities with other health delivery systems to achieve affordable outcomes.
    • Oversee the following:
      • o Continuous Quality Improvement and Patient Care Review Committee, including quality improvement and compliance
      • o Credentialing Committee
      • o Provider performance review and monitoring
    • Participate in senior management clinical strategy development and implementation.
    • Develop and implement strategic goals related to the quality improvement, management programs and accreditation standards.
    • Representation of CA at national, regional and international conferences and events.
    • Representation of CA with funding organizations and partners.

    Quality of Staff Personnel Management:

    • Heads the credentialing process; reports and advises on credentialing activities to the CA Board of Trustees.
    • Responsible for performance evaluations of all medical and dental clinical staff.
    • Responsible for recruitment of MDs, NPs, RNs, DDSs, and for site-specific training of clinical staff.
    • Manages the Supervising Dentist with regard to dental services provided to CA programs.

     

    Quality of Care:

    • Responsible for clinical oversight of all division medical and dental practices and programs.
    • Develops, implements and monitors the Continuous Quality Improvement Program; reports on CQI activities and outcomes to CA Board of Trustees.
    • Assures all patient education and informational materials meet standards of care and best practices.
    • Provides medical care to patients
    • Foster Care – Responsible for medical oversight of all Foster Care medical programs. Delegates responsibility to the Assistant Medical Director for Foster Care for:
    •  Attending quarterly meetings and acting as Clinical liaison for ACS. Responsible for disseminating information at these meetings to appropriate staff.
    • Overseeing all foster care health programs, including Special Medical staff and nurses.

     

    Medical Administrative Responsibilities:

    • Develops and updates policy and procedure manuals for all medical practices in accordance with relevant Federal, State and City requirements.
    • Assumes legal responsibility for maintaining the confidentiality of patients' histories and records; responsible for overseeing ordering and distributing (when indicated) prescription drugs and supplies in compliance with State and Federal laws, and for the review and initiation of appropriate reports regarding occurrences.
    • Responds to and develops funding proposals by writing and documenting the clinical areas addressed.

     

    Service and Practice Development:

    • Responsible for oversight of the preceptorship program agreements with other hospitals and training programs, such as Columbia University, Lehman College, NYU Nursing for NP training, St. Barnabas Hospital, Montefiore Health Systems, Mount Sinai Medical School and health systems.
    • Serves on CA’s Research Review Committee.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

     

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York.
    • Board certified pediatrician.
    • Five or more years' experience in pediatric services; and five to ten years’ experience in medical management; evidence of progressively greater responsibility, including significant components of clinical performance improvement and patient safety accountability.
    • Progressive leadership and clear achievements in healthcare/medical staff activities.
    • Experience with clinical informatics and/or an electronic health record.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse constituencies and stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated experience in collaborative team leadership and creative problem solving.
    • Work effectively and enthusiastically with professionals and patients from a wide range of cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
    • Possess superb management skills (ownership, coaching, delegation, influencing and feedback).
    • Have demonstrated ability to manage relationships and partner with key stakeholders in order to influence outcomes and ensure smooth operations to support agency goals.
    • Ability to multi task and manage multiple assignments and respond to various constituents through strong customer service.
    • Excellent project management, organization and prioritization skills.
    • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with detail and discretion.
