Senior Regulatory Affairs Specialist

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: The Sr. Regulatory Affairs Specialist is an integral part of our R&D team reporting directly to the Director, Regulatory. This individual ensures compliance with all applicable domestic and international laws, regulations and customs for key markets at the ingredient and trade level. In addition, the Sr. Regulatory Affairs Specialist will work cross-functionally focusing their efforts on performing formula assessments, ingredient listings, label reviews, claims, and marketing collaterals and substantiation to achieve compliance for all products.


Maintain current knowledge of catalog ingredients and products; Manager regional product restriction management

Develop compliance SOPs for site merchandizing, product/vendor on-boarding and marketing programs

Review and approve product labels and promotional materials to ensure domestic and global market compliance

Understand SGF product line, including scientific technology used to formulate and test products, how products are used, and how products are filed and marketed

Export system filings and a variety of trade documents such as: Certificates of Analysis, Manufacturing declarations, etc.

Analyze and interpret regulatory and testing standards

Ensure global compliance with key ingredient and trade regulations

Conduct research; Support strategic planning and product development efforts

Assist with the facilitation of all new and modified product launches by prepping regulatory documentation

Lead development dossiers for product registration in countries outside the U.S.

Coordinate with 3rd party certifying organizations (i.e. Kosher, Organic, GMO, Gluten Free, etc.)

Maintain finished product certifications and/or re-verifications such as: Non-GMO project, Kosher certification, etc.

Research and highlight key changes in international regulatory policies (i.e. trade embargos, ingredient restrictions, etc.)

Develop metrics to monitor progress of initiatives; Conduct periodic policy audits for packaging websites, digital media outlets and all other conventional outlets, as needed

Monitor global changes to regulatory compliance or deficiencies that may affect relative compliance or market position for Simply and provide actionable recommendations

Collaborate with Quality, Legal, Marketing and R&D to assure formulation and packaging are within regulations for new, revised and existing products delivered to the market

Serve as a compliance resource; Provide expert recommendations and analytical support on compliance projects, including creating and/or approving regulatory and nutrition components, not limited to: final packaging, artwork, label copy, advertising, promotional and education material releases, etc.

Support finished product and raw material specification maintenance, as needed

Participate / Lead special projects and assignments, as required

Participate in all other miscellaneous SMPL and departmental tasks, as required

Attend departmental/cross-functional meetings


Strong knowledge of AUS, Canadian and US (FDA and USDA) labeling regulations

Regulatory and food law knowledge at the state, federal (i.e. FDA, DPHS, FTC, USDA) and international (CFIA, FSA, FSANZ, EU) level including 3 rd party certifying organizations in Food and Beverage industry

Strong knowledge of ingredient functionality and product formulation

Communicate effectively at all levels with internal and external teams

Self-starter and strong team player; excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks, exceptional organizational skills and detail-oriented


Bachelors degree in a Scientific Field (Chemistry, Food Science or related fields), required; Masters degree, preferred

Minimum 5 years experience working in Regulatory or Food Safety in the food and beverage or supplement industry

Experience with product compliance related to health foods in Domestic and International markets

Experience in 3rd party certifying organizations in the food industry (i.e. Halal, Kosher, GMO, etc.) Proficient in various nutritional databases, supplier management systems and software programs (i.e. Genesis, TraceGains, Assembla, WebCenter, GlobalVision, and WorkZone)
