    **Description**

    **Essential Functions:**

    1. Daily Cleaning - Performs regular cleaning in public spaces (entry hall, museum galleries, restrooms, education studio, auditorium and caf) and back of house areas (offices, hallways, conference rooms, break room, restrooms and stairs),. Cleans areas according to checklists at each site.

    2. Equipment - Operates and performs operator maintenance keeping cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, buffers and steam cleaner) in good working order. Reports equipment problems to supervisor.

    3. Custodial Storage/Carts - Maintains orderly work and storage areas. Cleans and maintains their cleaning cart and provides input to ensure continuous inventory of approved cleaning and maintenance supplies.

    4. Communication - Alerts supervisor and colleagues who would be impacted of any changes to the posted work schedule. Assists in production of the monthly custodial work schedule by submitting requests for days off at least two weeks in advance when possible.

    5. Recycling/Trash - Sorts and transports items for recycling to Recycling Room at BHW or museum. Removes trash from the building to designated pick-up area.

    6. Reporting - Advises supervisor regarding condition problems with the interior environment or any part of the facility requiring maintenance. Reports pests found to IPM technician.

    7. Training - Attends safety/defensive driving training as required. Follows safety and security procedures, including use and disposal of cleaning supplies and chemicals. Maintains current SDS inventory and records as required. Participates in training for and emergency preparation/recovery activities.

    8. Other Tasks - Works with supervisor, colleagues, and contractors to perform non-routine cleaning jobs, such as interior window washing, floor waxing, etc. Makes local deliveries and pick-ups as assigned. Assists with preparation and cleanup for special events. Performs other duties as assigned, including in other locations within the Museums, Preservation, Historic Resources division.

    **Position Type (Regular/FT)**

    **Required and Preferred Education and Experience:**

    Required: 10th grade education and one or more years experience performing custodial duties as part of a team.

    Preferred: One or more years experience performing custodial duties in a museum or similar environment.

    Basic knowledge of computer use including ability to use e-mail.

    Valid Commonwealth of Virginia drivers license (or the ability to obtain one) and have an acceptable driving record as measured against Colonial Williamsburgs criteria.

    **Qualifications:**

    Ability to clean all types of interior building finishes and spaces, including offices, auditoriums, cafes, staff break rooms and restrooms.

    Ability to operate maintenance equipment, such as floor buffers and carpet cleaning equipment.

    Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with guests and co-workers and work independently and with others.

    Ability to adapt to changing work priorities.

    Ability to understand and follow oral and written schedules and instructions, including directions on cleaning supplies and chemicals.

    Ability to work in environments containing dust, pollen, and mold.

    Ability to work an assigned schedule totaling 40 hours per week. This will include weekends, evenings, early mornings or evenings, holidays and special events.
