- Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on all landfill vehicles, heavy equipment, and other related equipment;
- Maintains effective working relationship with co-workers, vendors, and equipment support groups;
- Performs repairs on hydraulic systems, drive trains, suspensions, steering systems, heating and air conditioning systems, ventilation systems, and emissions and related systems;
- Performs maintenance on landfill vehicles and equipment;
- Updates and maintains shop maintenance logs for repairs on all equipment and vehicles;
- Orders parts and maintains inventory for a diverse variety of equipment and vehicles as needed;
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County and Department policies, procedures, and safety practices and in accordance with automotive industry standards, policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Performs as relief heavy equipment operator, as needed;
- Performs other related duties as required.

General Statement of Duties
Performs mechanical maintenance and repair of landfill vehicles and heavy equipment; performs related work as required. Work under the direct supervision of the Lead Landfill Mechanic. Performs necessary service and maintenance work of landfill heavy equipment and vehicles.
Classification Summary
The primary function of an employee in this class is to maintain and repair all Solid Waste Department vehicles and equipment according to manufacturer specifications satisfying equipment warranties.
The employee has responsibility to ensure that all Department equipment is maintained, serviced, and available for use by Department employees.
The work is performed under the supervision of the Lead Landfill Mechanic.The principal duties of this class are performed in a maintenance shop environment that may involve exposure to adverse weather conditions and related hazards in a landfill.
