    General Overview:

    The Maintenance Machinist is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective operation of equipment in VVF's BARS operations.

    Basic Minimum Requirements:

    1. Ability to read and write.
    2. Must pass a training program to operate equipment on packaging floor.
    3. Must be able to operate a fork truck and pass the required fork truck-training program.
    4. Must have three (3) years on-the-job experience as a packaging mechanic.
    5. Experience troubleshooting, repairing, installing packaging equipment, and/or removing pneumatic, mechanical and electrical components. Experience with packaging line changeovers.
    6. Able to express basic electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic principles.
    7. Experience working with mechanical systems and components, including motors, gearboxes, bearings, drive shafts, sprockets, and roller chains, etc.
    8. Experience working with hydraulic systems and components, including cylinders, pumps, valves, motors, etc.
    9. Working knowledge of welding, drilling, and milling.
    10. Ability to operate shop equipment such as grinders, belt sanders, drill press, band saws, hydraulic press, electric drills, etc.
    11. Must have basic standard and metric hand tools (e.g. sockets, wrenches, pliers, channel locks, wire cutters).
    12. Must be able to work any shift, and overtime as required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1. Basic knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
    2. Experience rebuilding and overhauling packaging equipment.
    3. Experience troubleshooting and running computer based diagnostics
    4. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, hydraulic schematics and technical manuals.
    5. Experience in maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing photo electrical registration systems.
    6. Working knowledge of Lathe operation.

    Physical Requirements:

    1. Requires physical capability of moderate to heavy lifting, climbing stairs and/or ladders, climbing platforms over conveyors.
    2. Requires sufficient physical ability to walk, stand, and sit; to frequently bend, squat, crouch, kneel, twist, and make other movements in the performance of daily activities; handling/fingering and using hand and power/pneumatic tools; to reach outward, and lift, carry, push and/or pull moderate amounts of weight.
    3. Work is performed in an internal plant environment; exposure to dust and noise.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Performs a wide variety of work in more than one area (e.g. operations, mechanical, blending, etc.).
    2. Checks, controls, operates, adjusts, sets up, maintains, repairs, changes over, cleans, replenishes, and clears jams for any equipment on the packaging floor.
    3. Pack, seal and hand palletize finished cases as required.
    4. Unwrap boxed deodorant, re-packs, and re-enters good product into the lines. Dumps salvageable concentrate or packaged units.
    5. Starts up, operates, and shuts down processes in accordance with Team Manager or operational instruction, JSA's, etc.
    6. Monitor product quality, equipment operations, process performance and other daily operations.
    7. Perform housekeeping, quality, safety, and behavioral based safety audits as assigned.
    8. Identify and implement operational improvements.
    9. Change over equipment and qualify equipment for start-up.
    10. Diagnose, troubleshoot and rectify equipment operating conditions by adjustment and repair to maintain efficient operations, including the removal and replacement of non-functioning parts.
    11. Maintain, dismantle, assemble, repair and replace worn, damaged and/or defective components such as detectors, seals, gaskets, bushings, gear, shafts, valves, etc. Use current maintenance systems to review periodic maintenance needs, input and update work-orders.
    12. Make practical recommendations consistent with general trades knowledge to maintain and increase machine efficiency and reduce repair and/or maintenance costs.
    13. Periodically check machines for need of adjustment or repairs, oiling and greasing as scheduled, notifying supervision when major repairs are necessary and assisting in the major overhaul and/or replacement of major machine parts.
    14. Perform a variety of ordinary tapping, drilling, filing, fitting, etc., operations in making repairs or making up repair parts using a variety of hand and/or bench power tools.
    15. Set up and load machine, clear jams and spot check parts for defects. Activate various controls to stop, reset, start and run the packaging equipment. Move in-process materials and stock, as required. Maintain required records of production, scrap, etc.
    16. Performs a wide variety of service work in one or more specialized maintenance area such as mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, carpentry, or machine servicing, etc.
    17. Responsible for maintaining, adjusting and rebuilding the machinery and equipment associated with producing, packaging, packing and palletizing.
    18. Modifies parts and corrects production problems related to equipment malfunctions/outages. Troubleshoots, alters or replaces control mechanisms. Performs line size changes. Assesses and performs preventive maintenance, services lines and prepares work orders for identified repairs/replacements.
    19. Repairs broken or worn machine parts. Fits, adjusts and installs parts and assembles to meet production requirements using shop tools, banders, saws, etc.
    20. Resets electrical breakers and corrects electrical control problems when applicable.
    21. Converts line machinery to different production runs and makes adjustments to minimize start-up times. Will assist in production operations to maintain continuous line operation.
    22. Keeps maintenance tools, equipment and machines in good repair, maintains and keeps work area in shop and production areas in neat, clean, orderly fashion.
    23. Performs general manual labor work.
    24. Completes work orders as required
    25. Perform all duties in a safe manner, utilizing safety practices and procedures required by VVF and applicable law (e.g. OSHA, etc.), personal protective equipment, and reporting procedures. Review all pertinent safety material before conducting new assignments.
    26. Work as part of a multi-skilled team to resolve any operational problems.
    27. Ensure GMP and FDA compliance by maintaining a safe, clean and orderly work area, and by completing all appropriate documentation correctly.
    28. Comply with Lock-out/Tag-out (LO/TO) procedures to assure safe isolation of power sources.
    29. Follow waste materials handling procedures to properly control hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
    30. Monitor and report unusual occurrences to management
    31. Train other employees as required.
    32. Maintain skills training as required by VVF, regulations and permits.
    33. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. No task or duty is exclusive to a classification or skillset. An employee working in this classification is expected to perform various duties and tasks that traditionally may not have been assigned under a more narrow job classification
