    HDR currently has an opening for a Federal Project Principal with the technical, managerial, and leadership skills to help support the Federal Business Group across multiple Federal market sectors and geographies.

    Based in one of our East Region offices, the Federal Project Principal will serve as a Principal in Charge for Federal projects to ensure quality delivery while also assisting with business development and client management activities to grow the Federal Business Group in the East Region.

    The ideal candidate will have served in both Federal government and private consultancy roles supporting the delivery of Federal projects primarily focused on Department of Defense design criteria (e.g., Unified Facility Criteria).

    In the role of Federal

    Project Principal , we'll count on you to:

    • Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project's lifecycle (from development & initiation to close-out)
    • Responsible for any project assignment regardless of size, visibility, number of disciplines, technical complexity, or number of staff
    • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
    • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design, and production meetings
    • Conduct work sessions for deliverable development in conjunction with other staff and stakeholders
    • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule
    • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule
    • Work with the Accounting, Operational, and Business leadership for periodic project reviews
    • Supervise large project staffs and act as a mentor for less-experienced Project Managers
    • Perform other duties as needed to include serving as a Project Manager for select projects

    Other potential roles and responsibilities include:

    • Serve as a member of a client management team for a Federal client or as the client manager
    • Serve as part of a pursuit team to win Federal AE contracts, lead a pursuit team, or serve as a contract manager
    • Participate in Federal Business Group planning meetings and activities with national, regional, and area market sector and operational leadership to develop and implement strategies for sustainable and profitable growth

    Qualifications
    Required Qualifications


    • Bachelor's degree in Architectural, Construction, or Engineering related field
    • 15 years project management experience
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office, and scheduling/project management software (Primavera P3 or Microsoft Project)
    • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills
    • Must be willing to travel
    • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

    • Extensive knowledge and experience with large-scale Federal projects
    • Strong team leadership, mentoring, motivational/organizational and people skills
