Job Skills/Requirements

The Payroll Specialist position is responsible for processing of payroll for assigned company and for maintaining the integrity of the payroll application to ensure employee information is correct for payroll, benefits and other compliance areas. The position provides support to the business units on payroll related questions and processes. The department handles multiple payroll periods for multiple states and includes some union environments.

Requirements:

• Strong knowledge of FLSA, state and federal payroll laws
• Working knowledge of payroll best practices
• Working knowledge of Computerease
• Strong proficiency in Excel including formulas, v-look-ups and pivot tables
• Demonstrated problem-solving
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

Role Responsibilities:

• Complete payroll processing for assigned companies from data input, review of deductions/tax/pay to final verification and approval
• Follow documented processes including checklists
• Promptly escalate issues to management with proposed solutions when applicable
• Review paperwork and data entry for completeness and accuracy
• Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely
• Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports
• Execute time and attendance processing and interface with payroll
• Understand proper taxation of employer paid benefits
• Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
• Process manual check and relocation metric's
• Process of garnishments, child support and tax levies
• Processing of new hires, terminations, salary changes, and any other personnel payroll related changes
• Research of payroll issues
• Promptly bring issues forward to Payroll Manager and technical support as needed
• Answer employee and manager questions with a high level of customer care
• Review and analyze data for accuracy
