    General Job Description

    The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading the company's engineering team and assisting fabrication and construction activities as needed. They are responsible for original design of processes and components, developing strategies to optimize processes, managing local and remote engineering, drafting, and technical staff, coordinating with engineers and other experts in developing manufacturing plans, hiring new staff, setting schedules, and working with quality control/assurance to ensure a product or project is built to specifications. They are responsible for working with clients and project managers to initiate, develop, and assist in managing complete projects to meet the client's needs.

    Director of Engineering Responsibilities Include:


    • Oversee the engineering department and all technical needs of the organization.


    • Ensure compliance with governing regulations, engineering standards, industry best practices.


    • Initiate, budget, and help manage projects by setting requirements, goals, and timelines


    • Oversee the capital expenditure plan for the company.


    • Design strategies for future projects based on the company's overall objectives and resources.


    • Hire engineers, drafting technicians, and estimators and lead/coordinate their training.


    • Implement innovative technologies.


    • Coordinate with consultants, vendors, and clients for development of new processes.


    • Review and update policies and procedures relevant to internal systems and equipment.


    • Oversee development of drawings and models for fabrication and ensure compliance with company and industry standards.


    • Work closely with operations, manufacturing, and sales to assure that projects meet client needs and expectations.


    • Holding direct reports accountable for their responsibilities and results.

    Requirements and Skills


    • Work experience as a Director of Engineering or in a similar position in an engineering, construction, or manufacturing firm.


    • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.


    • Experience in managing complex projects, developing processes, and building products from scratch.


    • Knowledge and experience with design of simple machines and structures.


    • Knowledge and experience with metal fabrication techniques and capabilities.


    • Knowledge and experience with grain, agricultural and manufacturing and processes.


    • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices, and performance standards in construction, grain processing, and manufacturing.


    • Familiarity with and/or usage of MS office, AutoCAD, Inventor, Advanced Steel, and industry specific software as required.


    • Experience with reviewing complex engineering and architectural drawings, performing material takeoffs, estimating fabrication time and materials, creating and/or overseeing development of fabrication and erection drawings.


    • Decision-making ability and leadership skills.


    • Ability to solve problems and work under pressure.


    • Current engineering license or on PE license track.


    • Time management and organization skills


    • High ability and interest to quickly learn new skills, techniques, and information and apply those to a wide breath of client needs.


    • Bachelor's or master's degree in agricultural, mechanical, or civil engineering is preferred.
