    The Department of Criminal Justice Services is seeking a collaborative and innovative team player to serve as a full-time IT Support Specialist in Richmond, Virginia.

    What you will do:

    • To provide problem management, troubleshooting and escalations to resolve customer problems.
    • Work with third party vendors to ensure problems are resolved in a timely manner.
    • Complete incident resolution at the highest levels of customer service.
    • Manage and monitor customer IT issues using helpdesk tools.
    • Provide management with recommendations for systems and process improvements.
    • Assist in testing and upgrading of new software versions.
    • Train on third party software to assist staff with configuration changes and other maintenance needed through the system.
    • Create and maintain system manuals and other support documentation.
    • Assist the agency's primary Help Desk Specialist with support for the agency's desktop issues.

    What the ideal candidate must possess:

    • Knowledge or experience with configuration of software systems.
    • Knowledge of IT concepts, systems development design, enhancements, and quality assurance.
    • Knowledge of help request tracking and reporting tools; of customer services processes, procedures, and practices.
    • Excellent customer service skills with a Customer First attitude.
    • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues and communicate solutions to staff/customers.
    • Ability to communicate with customers in lay terms regarding technology needs both orally and in writing with individuals and groups.
    • Analytical skills and attention to detail is critical.
    • Experience and knowledge of telephone etiquette.
    • Familiar with providing desktop support functions including printer installs, mapping of drives, general troubleshooting.
    • Ability to think strategically and cross culturally, and independently implement new initiatives and projects.
    • Ability to articulate, both orally and in written form, clear and concise program objectives and goals and summarize achievements of programs in reports and other documents as requested.
    • Documented experience working as an active, contributing team member, as well as an independent and self-motivated employee.
    • Demonstrated ability to meet critical deadlines, handle multiple assignments, changing priorities, and ensure timeliness and quality of completed assignments.

    Additional Considerations:

    • Experience with vendor-based system implementations and support.
    • Considerable technical writing abilities.
    • Knowledge of federal and state grants.
    • Previous experience supporting a Grants Management System.
    Interview candidates may be required to demonstrate the skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory performance of work.

    The candidate selected for the position must successfully complete a criminal background investigation and complete and submit a Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) which will be entered into the Federal E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization.

    The individual may also be responsible for submitting an annual Statement of Personal Economic Interest.

    In addition, the selected candidate who begins original employment or re-employment in this position must serve a 12-month probationary period effective from the date of employment.

    The anticipated starting salary range is $55,000 to $72,000 plus the state's benefits package.
