    This position is located in the Nursing Department of the SW Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana.

    The position will be filled by a probation appointment or promotion of a permanent state employee.

    This is a Full-time appointment pay starts at $44.32 per hour depending upon experience. plus $4.00 per hour physically worked.

    Shift differentials also apply (see below):

    SHIFT DIFFERENTIALS (per HOUR physically worked):
    Shift Diff 1st shift (Weekends, Holidays, and Weekend Holidays)-$3.00

    Shift Diff 2nd shift (Weekdays)-$3.00

    Shift Diff 2nd shift (Weekends, Holidays, and Weekend Holidays)-$4.00

    Shift Diff 3rd shift (Weekdays)-$4.00

    Shift Diff 3rd shift (Weekends, Holidays, and Weekend Holidays)- $5.00

    Qualifications


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


    Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) stateplus six years of professional nursing experience.


    SUBSTITUTIONS:
    A baccalaureate degree in nursing will substitute for one year of the required experience.

    A master's degree in nursing or public health will substitute for one year of the required experience.

    Specialized degrees less than a doctorate will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

    A doctorate in nursing or public health will substitute for two years of the required experience.

    Specialized degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.


    NOTE:
    Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

    General from a Registered Nurse of a higher level or other higher level personnel.


    SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
    Direct line over Registered Nurse Assistant Directors of Nursing, Registered Nurse Managers, Supervisors, and lower level personnel.


    LOCATION OF WORK:
    Statewide.


    JOB DISTINCTIONS:
    Differs from RN Director of Nursing B by the size of the facility, supervisory, and/or programmatic responsibilities.

    EXAMPLES OF WORK:

    Direct all nursing care services within a facility.

    Establishes standards of nursing care and performance of all personnel within the nursing department.

    Establishes nursing objectives, philosophy, and goals.

    Participates in instructional planning as a member of executive management.

    Makes daily rounds of nursing units and may provide direct patient care on complex cases.

    Develops and maintains a current Master Staffing Plan.

    Conducts research as it relates to nursing interventions and implements new nursing processes.

    Maintains, implements, and updates written organizational plans.

    Delineates the duties and responsibilities of each category of nursing personnel.

    Formulates nursing budget request; administers budget by reviewing reports and reacting to feedback and procedures.

    Assures current licensure of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses.

    Functions as liaison required between medical staff and nursing department.

    Assures competency of nursing personnel through an ongoing evaluation process.

    Formulates, reviews, and revises policies and procedures as indicated.

    Formulates methodology for evaluating and assuring quality of nursing care.

    Coordinates interdepartmental relationships and interviews, assesses, and hires personnel.

    Provides for nursing administration on all shifts.

    Collaborates with nursing school representative to organize clinical experience of students.

    Appoints committees and/or committee members.

    Conducts head nurse and supervisor meetings.

    Prepares periodic reports on the status of nursing care.

    Recommends policy and/or procedure change to administration and/or medical staff.
