- Act as the main technician resource for a specific specialty service.
- Be flexible to assist in multiple services as required.
- Collaborate with Specialty Nurses to prepare all necessary equipment and supplies for procedures.
- Assume a primary preceptor role for students, surgical technicians, and Registered Nurses.
- Assist with patient care activities such as intubation and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Ensure all specimens are handled correctly according to hospital guidelines.
- Check and prepare supplies, equipment, and instruments before procedures.
- Work closely with the Specialty RN to manage surgical inventory and orders.
- Provide in-service training on new equipment and instruments.
- Maintain surgical counts for sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure patient safety.
- Participate actively in the 'Time Out' process with the surgical team to promote safety.
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technician program or National Certification.
- Completion of Operating Room orientation within 6 months of hire.
- American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care healthcare setting.
- Certified Surgical Technologist is highly preferred.
- Adept at maintaining a sterile field and performing sterile techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly.
