    Description

    This role supports the operations of the Y, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

    Reporting to the Health & Wellness Director or Member Engagement Director, the Personal Trainer will help members achieve their wellness goals through approved programs by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio.

    The position plays a vital role in assisting members in setting and achieving both short and long-term goals, fostering skills for sustained health behavior change.

    Responsibilities include aligning program duties with the YMCA of Greater San Antonio's policies, objectives, and mission.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Conduct personal training sessions for YMCA members as directed.
    • Maintain a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
    • Monitor members' adherence to individual plans and motivate them to continue.
    • Follow YMCA guidelines for strength training and nutrition.
    • Participate in required training classes.
    • Promote the YMCA program.
    • Ensure equipment is in proper condition.
    • Adhere to safety and risk management protocols.
    • Engage with members on the wellness floor and in group classes.
    • Attend staff meetings and assist colleagues when necessary.
    • Maintain certifications and stay updated on industry trends.
    • Avoid medical advice and commercial product endorsements.
    • Perform other assigned duties.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A 4-year degree in a health-related field preferred. Experience can be substituted for education.
    • 1-2 years experience in health and wellness.
    • National certification in Personal or Strength Training required.
    • Knowledge of fitness research, program design, anatomy, physiology, and behavior change methods.

    Certifications required:
    Within 1st week: Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications.
    Within 1st 60 days: CPR, First Aid, AED, Emergency Oxygen.
    Within 6 months: YMCA Principles of Healthy Lifestyles, YMCA Foundations of Strength & Conditioning.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Fast-paced wellness floor/office setting.
    • Visual acuity needed for computer work and document review.
    • High level of alertness and concentration required.
    • Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds and bending.
    • Sitting for extended periods.
    • Standing for presentations.
    • Effective communication and keyboard skills.
