    Amsted Rail Truck & End of Car has a great new opportunity open in our Greenville, South Carolina plant location. The Product Engineer - Brakes is responsible for the development and maintenance of specific product designs within Amsted Rail's brake product line. The position works directly with other design engineers, manufacturing engineers, strategic purchasing leaders and operations personnel to maximize the value and performance of their assigned products to these key criteria: safety, performance to customer quality requirements, competitive manufacturing costs and reliability.

    The key contributions in this role will be: subject matter expertise in product design implementations of key processes (casting, forging, machining, etc.), cost reduction leadership in mature products, and independent design management in mechanical and pneumatic components and systems.

    Key Roles & Responsibilities:

    Manage assigned rail vehicle brake products through all phases of their life cycle.

    Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding design, quality and reliability needs.

    Design and edit in SolidWorks, complying with drawing management requirements.

    Hands-on collaboration with R&D and quality technicians to validate products in laboratory settings.

    Deliverable: cost reduction in established products through intersection of design improvement and purchasing opportunity.

    Deliverable: timely communication of new product design information to sales, purchasing, or manufacturing stakeholders.

    Will mentor and develop other engineers and technicians in areas of product expertise.

    Will effectively collaborate with purchasing stakeholders to implement cost reduction strategies with key suppliers.

    Will effectively collaborate with manufacturing stakeholders to improve the safety and manufacturability of assigned products.

    Experience & Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree required - Mechanical Engineering

    5 or more years of engineering experience

    Experience that includes fluid dynamics (pneumatic or hydraulic systems)

    Expertise in design for one or more manufacturing processes (castings, forgings, machined parts, injection molding, stamping, etc.)

    Experience completing design and drawing management in SolidWorks

    Preferred: Experience in lab or production test control development in LabView

    Preferred: Experience with manufacturing activity managed in SAP

    Interpersonal / Leadership Attributes:

    Flexibility - demonstrated ability to move between design and shop/lab environments to own all aspects of design

    Technical Depth - comfortable making independent decisions and coaching others in areas of technical expertise

    Collaborator - communicates across departments to achieve desired product outcomes (cost, customer acceptance, etc.)

    Advocate - makes excellent design decisions but can communicate his/her technical reasoning to others to secure alignment

    Curious - interested in learning and applying new tools and technologies in legacy environments
