    Job Overview:

    Responsible for managing the Water Quality department's day to day operations, whose core role is maintaining optimum environmental conditions for diverse collection of marine life throughout the park.

    This is achieved through diligent oversight, operation, and maintenance of 20+ animal life support systems.

    In addition, position is responsible for contributing to staff development and long-range planning, updating operation and maintenance procedures, overseeing department related aspects of capital project execution, ensuring regulatory compliance, and other business functions as directed by management.


    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Working with park leadership, develop and implement departmental strategic plan consistent with park and corporate strategic plans. Identify opportunities for improved department operations and realization of greater operating efficiencies.
    • Ensure all life support systems and water treatment facilities operate within environmental and animal health regulations/requirements. Drive engineering and technical development providing for ongoing improvements to water quality and animal health. Provide interface with environmental resource management department on regulatory issues.
    • Oversee, track, maintain records and ensure all team members are up to date with all required training, including safety, operational, and re-certifications on new and existing equipment.
    • Assist with the annual preparation of the department budget. Oversee the procurement of water treatment chemicals, equipment and supplies utilized for the life support systems and related equipment for department. Monitor chemical and other material and equipment usage, and track expenditures throughout the year to maintain budget.
    • Perform various troubleshooting techniques, solve department, and park emergency related problems or ongoing life support system problems or malfunctions.
    • Participate in the planning, design and construction of water system related capital projects.
    • Responsible for overseeing water quality operations which ensure acceptable environmental conditions are maintained for a marine life collection.
    • Manage the work of outside contractors performing contract maintenance, emergency repairs and sundry capital.

    Qualifications:

    • At least 18 years of age
    • Must be a self-directed /self-starting.
    • Must have valid California driver's license; able to obtain SeaWorld driver's license, C.P.R. / A.E.D. certification, and first aid certification.
    • Knowledge of water treatment processes (municipal and/or aquarium/zoological), facility operations budgeting, employee supervision, and project management is required.
    • Affiliation with water quality, facilities management, and/or engineering professional organizations is preferred.

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline preferred or relevant work experience.

    Competencies:

    • At least eight years of combined experience in the water/wastewater quality, two years' experience in project management, and/or engineering related fields Must have at least 7 years of leadership experience.
    • Regulatory experience in the state of California is required.
    • Experience in establishing and tracking budgets is required.
    • Must have experience in managing projects that involves multiple departments/disciplines.
    • Possess the ability to provide effective leadership for the area ensuring the highest level of team member satisfaction, competency and safe working environment.
    • Must have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
    • Must be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
    • Possess strong interpersonal skills.
    • Strong written/verbal communication skills; able to read, write and speak English.
    • Possess strong mathematical skills.
    • Performs other miscellaneous duties as required including assisting other locations, departments and areas in the park as needed.

    Responsibility for Others:

    • Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to safety requirements.
    • Lead the daily operations of the park operations department.
    • Manages ambassadors.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
    • Regular use of hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
    • Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights, if needed.
    • Stand for prolonged periods of time.
    • Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks (use of tools/keyboard/writing)
    • Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors and cold/heat temperature extremes
    • Perform cleaning duties; including use of cleaning chemicals
    • Must be flexible in work locations as placement will depend on business needs and career development opportunities

    Availability:

    • Available to work varying shifts or hours based on park hours, i.e. be able to work opening and closing shifts, nights, weekends, and Holidays.

    • Work indoors and in outside weather conditions (i.e., direct sunlight, wet and/or humid)
    • Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

    • Able to positively interact with guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs.

    $91,000-$100,000
