A Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a Physician by performing various duties including preparing patient for physician evaluation taking vitals recording information in patients electronic medical record administering medication conducting various procedures such as EKGs urinalysis hemoccult peak flow nebulizer treatments recording complete appropriate information in patient charts restocking lab area maintaining inventory of medications medical supplies assisting in receiving discharging patients training other employees answering phones returning calls within defined time frames performing clerical functions monitoring ordering supplies assisting receptionists sterilizing wrapping instruments calculating correct medication dosage cleaning duties facilitating coordination care individual patients displaying effective communication skills with vulnerable populations maintaining concise documentation scanning documentation updating appropriate care guidelines following evidence-based approaches self-management support standing orders developed DOD testing protocols medication refills identifying care gaps vaccines preventive services.
