- Engineering Technician, Assistant (Level I): $46, $60,561.98 Annually
- Engineering Technician (Level II): $58, $69,767.50 Annually This position may be classified as an Engineering Technician, Assistant or Engineering Technician based on qualifications.
- For Assistant Engineering Technician (Level I): Assist with construction inspection, material testing, and survey activities. Perform basic calculations for construction projects, read plans, and ensure compliance with specifications.
- For Engineering Technician (Level II - in addition to the above duties): Handle more complex calculations, act as chief inspector on projects, and provide training to lower-level technicians.
- For Assistant Engineering Technician (Level I) Qualifications include completion of an approved engineering technology program, relevant experience, or college credits in related fields. A valid driver's license is required.
- Physical ability to lift items up to 60 pounds, work outdoors in various conditions, and work around traffic.
- For Engineering Technician (Level II) Experience in engineering or related fields, or certification as a Certified Survey Technician. A valid driver's license is necessary.
- Ability to lift heavy items, work outdoors, and collaborate effectively with team members. Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications from the MnDOT Technical Certification Program. Experience with survey equipment and materials testing tools, as well as proficiency in software programs like Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
- Knowledge of math functions, construction materials, and effective communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Job Description
We are looking for an Engineering Technician or Assistant Engineering Technician to join the Construction division of Hennepin County's Transportation department. As part of the construction inspection crew, you will also have opportunities to work with a survey crew and materials testing lab team.
This role offers exposure to municipal government projects and public works on a county-wide scale. You will receive training and development opportunities to enhance your professional growth. Recent graduates from May 2024 are encouraged to apply.
If you are a current Hennepin County employee, you may be eligible for a referral bonus of $500 when you refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position.
Location and Hours:
The position is hybrid with work primarily at the Public Works Facility in Medina, MN. During construction season, you will be working at various Hennepin County sites or in the office, and during winter, job duties may require hybrid work. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New employees hired into remote or hybrid positions from January 2, 2022, to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 towards establishing consistent internet connectivity after completing 6 months of employment.
This full-time position offers benefits and future growth potential. Depending on your education and experience, you may be selected for the Assistant Engineering Technician or Engineering Technician level.
