Description

This is skilled electrician and general repair work at the journeyman level.

An employee in a position allocated to this class is responsible for general maintenance, such as, light structural repair, heating & air conditioning in addition to electricians duties.

Examples of Duties

Inspects, tests and repairs electrical lighting, signal, and power circuits, and equipment.

Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using a variety of testing instruments and makes repairs as needed.

Does minor construction electrician work such as installation of outlets or lighting circuits, running signal circuits, or running power to new equipment (consistent with all applicable codes).

Repairs air conditioning or heating equipment, as needed.

General maintenance work, such as painting, repair of doors and locks, or dry wall.

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of electrical codes as applicable to educational occupancy. Knowledge of local electrical transmission systems. Knowledge of Florida Building Code requirements and preferably knowledge of State of Florida educational codes and standards. Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and air conditioning. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions required in general maintenance or electrical work. Knowledge of basic construction and plumbing skills. Skill in the use of a variety of tools, material and equipment. Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, sketches, schematics or drawings for specifications of work to be done. Ability to make accurate estimates of time and materials. Ability to read and write English. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School graduate plus six years journeyman level experience in electrical work. A High School equivalency diploma from the State Department of Education may be substituted for high school graduation. Computer literate. Must have current minimum Class C Commercial Driver's License.

Color perception to allow acceptable electrical work.

Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).

Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying.

Reaching.

Use of fingers.

Walking.

Standing.

Kneeling.

Bending.

Stooping.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Works inside and outside in various weather conditions; heights (up to 40 feet); with electrical energy, in or with moving objects, with chemicals, solvents, fumes, gases, grease and oils.
