    Position Information

    New Hanover County is actively seeking an experienced Information Technology Senior Network Engineer to become a valuable contributor within our Information Technology Department.

    This role will lead our network design and strategic initiatives, while also delivering senior-level administration and oversight. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing and implementing complex network solutions, coupled with an in-depth comprehension of network security, performance optimization, and effective vendor management.

    Essential Functions Include:
    • Lead the design, development, and execution of network strategies, including designing innovative solutions for network enhancement.
    • Evaluate and test new products, overseeing software and hardware upgrades to ensure they align with long-term objectives.
    • Diagnose and resolve complex network, hardware, and software issues, collaborating with external vendors when necessary.
    • Design, maintain and enhance network security measures, guarding against external threats and ensuring compliance with security policies.
    • Implement advanced security protocols and controls.
    • Continuously monitor network performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues to ensure uninterrupted service.
    • Design and implement advanced private network addressing schemes for remote access.
    • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to resolve complex issues and recommend cutting-edge hardware, software, and services.
    • Provide high-level technical support and assistance to customers and helpdesk personnel, addressing complex issues.
    • Be available to work during emergency and disaster situations, ensuring network resilience and rapid recovery.
    Required knowledge and skills:
    • Proficiency in network security, performance optimization, and vendor management.
    • Extensive experience in network design, strategy, and administration in a senior role.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
    • A proactive and innovative mindset with a passion for staying updated with emerging network technologies and best practices.

    Hours:
    8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

    Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

    Salary Information:
    The hiring range for this position is $79,291 - $107,043 annually plus a competitive benefits package
    Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

    Qualifications

    Required minimum education and experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in a related field
    • Five (5) years or more in a lead network position or equivalent experience and education to meet the qualifications
    Licenses and Certifications:
    • CompTIA Network +, CCENT
    • Industry certifications such as CCIE, CCNP, or equivalent are a plus.
    Licenses/Certifications
    • Valid Driver's License (from any state) and good driving record required at time of application.
    • Valid North Carolina Driver's License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
