Position Information Division Academic Affairs Department Inclusive Education Working Title Joseph B. Oxendine Distinguished Professorship in Teacher Education - 581 Vacancy Type Tenure Track Faculty Min T/E Requirements Qualifications. Candidates must have earned a doctorate in Elementary Education, Reading/Literacy, Special Education, Early Childhood, or a closely related field from an accredited university. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated research and teaching experience in reading and literacy, with a strong emphasis on the science of reading and evidence-based instructional practices. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in early literacy, reading assessment, diagnosis and remediation of reading difficulties, and/or reading interventions. At least three years teaching experience in public schools with preference for candidates who have taught Elementary, Reading and/or Special Education. Faculty must be eligible for and maintain North Carolina Teaching Licensure in Elementary Education K-6 or Reading K-12, and training in LETRS (or other formal training in phonological awareness and phonics). The successful candidate will hold a minimum of 18 graduate-level hours in literacy coursework and demonstrate expertise in the current science of reading. Candidates will be expected to collaborate with local schools, teachers, students and community members to support literacy across southeastern North Carolina.

A proven record of research and scholarship supporting literacy and reading research, and/or external research funding.

Experience in and/or interest in leading others in developing course curricula in teacher preparation.

Primary Purpose of Position The Department of Inclusive Education in the School of Education at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is pleased to invite applications for the Joseph B. Oxendine Distinguished Professorship in Teacher Education seeking an innovative leader to support literacy. Salary will be highly competitive and commensurate with rank. The professorship includes research and travel support. This is an excellent opportunity for a visionary leader to join a passionate group of faculty preparing the next generation of teachers. The distinguished professor position will have the rank of full professor in the School of Education. This position is available January 2024 until filled.
