    The City of Wylie's award winning Recreation Center is seeking a part time Recreation Monitor to work in the Childcare section.

    The selected applicant will work in partnership with other employees, departments/divisions, external entities and the public to deliver effective and innovative recreation services.

    Will provide safe, healthy, and entertaining services to the guests at assigned Wylie Recreation Facility.

    This is accomplished by providing good customer service, providing cleaning and maintenance on a regular basis, supervising guests, and planning and producing programs and special events.

    Supervision is provided by the Guest Services Specialist (GSS) and/or Recreation Programmer, and Recreation Supervisor.

    Essential Job Functions

    The following duties are typical for this classification.

    Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.


    • Monitors the open play areas by distributing equipment; ensuring the rules are followed and the proper behavior is displayed; walking the areas every hour to check hallways, classrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, restrooms, doors, and equipment; picking up trash and providing upkeep as needed; recording all maintenance activities; and setting up equipment and supplies for programs.
    • Maintains a record of the number of guests in the facility by taking a count every hour in various parts of the building.
    • Assists guests while on trips and outings by maintaining travel logs; following health and safety procedures; overseeing the safety and organization of participants on trips; and managing departures and arrival times. May drive bus as needed.
    • Leading organized activities by providing instruction and direction to guests in a variety of programs.
    • Performs guest supervision by ensuring safety measures are taken and the needs of the guests are met, and recording and attending to any inquiries that occur.
    • Performs maintenance and cleaning by sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down and sanitizing furniture and equipment, washing equipment on a regular basis, taking out trash, ensuring work area is tidy, and providing regular maintenance on equipment.
    • Performs administrative duties by administering waivers, entering them into the ActiveNet system, and filing them appropriately; completing sign-in and sign-out sheets; verifying waivers and passes; and answering telephones.
    • Oversees special events and decorations by participating in planning process, gathering needed supplies, assisting and leading special events, and decorating seasonally.
    • Provides customer service and guest relations by responding to patron and staff phone calls and face-to-face inquiries; assisting patrons and staff in various areas of the facilities; engaging in conflict resolution with patrons and staff; assisting patrons with a variety of equipment when necessary; supervising participants during programs; and enforce program and facility rules, regulations, and procedures.
    • Actively participates in staff training, meetings, and in-service programs.
    • Operates a motor vehicle in carrying out the business of the department and the City.
    • Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strives for excellence in public service, enhancing the quality of life for all.
    • Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers and others.
    • Other duties as may be assigned.
    Minimum Job Requirements

    High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred. Must be 18 years of age or older. Previous experience preferred; the ideal candidate should have a proven record of working with the public for recreational programs. Valid Driver's License. Must have Texas Driver's License within 60 days of hire. Must obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within six months of hire. Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses as outlined by Emergency Management after hire.
