    Summary



    This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.

    You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

    Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

    Duties


    The
    Staff Nephrologist position is located in the Nephrology Service, Albany Stratton VA Medical Center (SVAMC), Albany, New York and supports the Network 2 Mission to care for our Veterans with compassion and excellence.

    This position is responsible for providing a broad range of Nephrology services to Veterans receiving care at the VAMC. Duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the Medical Center.

    The Physician follows established guidelines, ethics, and policies and protocols of the Nephrology Service, Department of Medicine, Department of VHA, and the profession.

    Each Nephrologist functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff.


    The position will encompass the breadth of clinical care, including inpatient consultation, outpatient clinic and outpatient dialysis rounding and telemedicine.

    The SVAMC cares for Veterans within the Upstate New York region from the Catskill region in the south, to the New York/Canada border in the North, and between Syracuse and Western Massachusetts from East/West.


    Clinical opportunities at the SVAMC include:

    acute and chronic hemodialysis (currently not including CRRT), peritoneal dialysis, kidney biopsy (if trained), and placement of temporary hemodialysis catheters.

    Teaching is an integral part of the work of a VA staff Nephrologist. This pertains to colleagues, residents, medical and nursing students, nursing and other ancillary staff.

    In addition to the clinical duties, the SVAMC division of Nephrology is closely integrated with the division of Nephrology at the Albany Medical College (AMC).

    The faculty at SVAMC also have academic appointments at AMC. The applicant, if deciding to join the SVAMC, would apply for the faculty position once on board at SVAMC. The Faculty of SVAMC are integrally involved in all teaching and research activities.

    Teaching responsibilities include resident mentorship during their rotation at the SVAMC, second year medical school renal theme, and outpatient renal clinic preceptor.

    Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases


    Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)


    Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA


    Insurance:
    Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)


    Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory


    CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)


    Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided


    Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting


    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm
