    Summary: The main function of a lab technician is to perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. A typical lab technician may work under the supervision of a medical technologist. This laboratory has high daily volume and is highly fast paced, performing high complexity testing for pain management in urine samples. This test contains 180+ analytes in one assay, techs are also responsible for the instrumentation / data analysis of four separate ancillary confirmation methods outside of this panel as well. This Bench uses 30+ LC-MS/MS instrument platforms utilizing Ascent cloud based processing.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Operating, calibrating, and maintaining LCMS-MS instruments

    Set up, adjust, maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment.

    Analyze the results of tests and experiments to ensure conformity to specifications, using special mechanical and electrical devices.

    Analyze, gather and record test data to issue reports that use charts, graphs and narratives.

    Obtain specimens, cultivating, isolating and identifying microorganisms for analysis.

    May examine cells stained with dye to locate abnormalities.

    Consult with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found.

    Skills: Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and problem solving skills. Basic ability to work independently and manage ones time. Basic knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries and diseases. Basic ability to analyze data and accurately document and record results.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications:

    Bachelors degree in science related industry. Commonly qualifying degrees include medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science. Here are some more common majors: Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Plant Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science

    Previous experience working in a repetitive, fast paced or high volume role (serving, food industry, etc.)

    Responsibilities:


    • Receive specimens for testing; evaluate specimens and test orders; determine priority of work and batches to maintain acceptable turn-around-time; recognize unacceptable and unusual specimens and handle appropriately.


    • Adhere to SOP while performing extractions and analysis on client samples, quality control samples and proficiency samples.


    • Prepare laboratory reagents and standard solutions according to SOP.


    • Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy; recognize and correct errors and unusual results; interpret result to produce a final report; use GDP in all documentation.


    • Maintain, calibrate and clean instrumentation; perform scheduled/routine maintenance and critical function checks; recognize significant changes in instrument function; troubleshoot as indicated.


    • Follow quality control rules; monitor controls for error detection and take corrective action; maintain laboratory records, maintenance logs, quality control logs, reagent and standard logs, and worksheets.
