    Description

    The Assistant/Associate Director (AD) of Housing and Residential/Commuter Life serves as a key member of the leadership team in the development and implementation of the department's mission. The AD assists the Director through ongoing departmental planning, assessment and training efforts providing vision and direction for growth. Specifically, the AD provides leadership and vision for the programmatic and operational functions of the Office of Housing and Residential/Commuter Life. This is a live-in position, providing housing with a three-bedroom, two-bathroom layout.

    Responsibilities

    Housing Operations
    • Develop and manage relationships with strategic partners on campus. These offices include, but are not limited to: Safety and Security, Facilities Management, Dining Services, Student Engagement, Campus Center Operations/Recreation, etc.
    • Facilitate housing assignments and assess billing for new students, housing selection for returning students and room changes throughout the year. Serve as the primary contact with the Student Access Center for medical accommodations. Ensure that all emergency and secondary emergency information for students is collected.
    • Direct the opening and closing of the residence halls through collaboration with facilities management, conferences, athletics, safety and security, student engagement, etc. Coordinate break housing requests and appropriate staffing.
    • Maintain all weekly statistics/reports for the Department, including but not limited to occupancy numbers and projections using the University's Banner system and Residence software. Create requested reports on a regular basis.
    • Collaborate with facilities management leadership and oversee the coordination of tasks related to the physical maintenance of the residence halls, including the completion of room condition reports and resulting work orders. Prioritize all facilities requests from the lens of student safety.
    • Work with the Director to prioritize and propose projects for funding through the CapDM request process or through departmental budget proposals. Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors for furniture purchases. Coordinate the purchase and inventory of equipment and furnishings.
    • Oversee lock changes, maintain a key inventory and arrange for security access to the residence halls.
    • Coordinate the assessment, prorating and billing of damage costs to students. Oversee the damage appeal process.
    • Develop content for departmental website, residential student handbook and other communication methods. Oversee marketing efforts to include print pieces, web site updates/design, email, promotional materials, etc.
    • Communicate and interpret housing policies and protocols with students, parents and staff. Assist with maintaining the content of the UNE Housing Handbook.
    Residential/Commuter Life
    • In conjunction with the Director, the AD will provide vision and leadership around department goal-setting, strategic planning, and program development.
    • The AD will assist in the onboarding and development of professional staff training within the department.
    • Alternate with the Director as the departmental senior on-call staff person for residential student concerns/emergencies. Implement appropriate procedures, direct/advise Area Coordinators during emergency/crisis situations in conjunction with department staff and other on and off campus emergency personnel. Confer with Director regarding incidents requiring intervention by external resources or needing the attention of senior University leadership. Serve as a member of the emergency response team. Provide on-site coordination of resources/information during power outages and/or events of resident relocation.
    • Oversee the Resident Advisor selection process including advertisements, print and web materials, staff training and interview process.
    • Collaborating with the Director, Area Coordinators and other University departments, coordinate the ongoing training of Resident Advisors including fall and winter training, in-services, and training manual development.
    • Participate on various department and University campus wide committees, events and activities including, but not limited to, Commencement, Orientation, Convocation, etc. Act as advisor to various residence hall student groups and organizations.
    • Serve as a university conduct officer. Through this role connect students to campus resources for greater success.
    • Counsel individual students on academic, personal and disciplinary matters, referring to various on or off campus resources as needed. Implement appropriate methods of resolving various interpersonal and community problems.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Supervision Exercised:

    Shared administrative and functional supervision of resident advisors and work-study students.

    Qualifications

    Master's degree preferred, Bachelor's degree required in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, or similar academic program and at least three to five years of relevant residence life administrative experience with one or more years of live-in experience, or combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
    • Previous housing operations experience is strongly preferred.
    • Experience with Residence, or other similar housing management software, is desirable. Comfort with Microsoft products is beneficial. The ideal candidate will have Banner experience.
    • Experience as a student conduct hearing officer is desirable.
    • Evidence of strong administrative, supervisory, and advisement skills.
    • Proven ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students as a mentor, supervisor, advisor and policy enforcer.
    • Ability to effectively communicate and partner with parents, other department/division staff, University staff, faculty, and community members to enhance the college experience for students.
    • Provide positive, friendly and effective customer service.
    • Ability to remain calm under pressure, and exercise good judgment during an emerging crisis.
    • Ability to participate in the on-call duty rotation, work nights/weekends. This is a live-on position.
