    We are seeking a Business Development Manager to join our Secondary Market Team in Durham, NC The Secondary Market team is responsible for a billion-dollar home lending program to make home ownership possible for low- and moderate-income families through partnerships with lenders and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

    The Secondary Market team activities comprise the largest portion of Self-Help's consolidated balance sheet and consequently high mission impact, financial return, and credit risk.

    The Business Development Manager oversees and is directly involved in all relationship management and business development activities with Government Supported Enterprises (GSEs), third party originators, vendors, and internal lending areas.

    The Business Development Manager is responsible for managing the growth of the assets under management.

    Business Development is also actively involved in overall home lending strategy, green lending through home and consumer lending, and collaborates with other teams to operationalize new initiatives.

    Additional responsibilities include ensuring that direct reports receive the appropriate coaching, training and development. The Business Development Manager is responsible for ensuring business development goals are attained.


    WHAT You'll DO:

    Develop, maintain, and coordinate all aspects of externally-facing relationships with lenders (banks, credit unions, and CDFIs), loan brokers, and investors (including FHA, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac) in support of Secondary Market's products and programs.

    Create business development strategies by analyzing trends in the secondary market and identifying new leads and potential opportunities for growth in our portfolio and expansion of our partner network.

    Lead new product development ideation, implementation, and execution in all Secondary Market asset types.

    Support organizational strategies to increase mortgage, solar, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle lending as well as identify secondary market sellers and purchasers.

    Work in coordination with Secondary Market Risk Management to analyze and price purchases, research other asset pricing, and support internal pricing tools.

    Work with Development, Policy, and Impact to identify sources of funding and subsidy for Secondary Market products and programs. Participate and support other team/cross-team business development projects and initiatives.

    Engage Industry lenders in discussion about Self-Help's Secondary Market products through one-on-one meetings, presentations, and participation in industry conferences and meetings.

    Oversee the management and development of direct reports including providing Secondary Market guidance, providing on-going feedback and coaching, and stewarding the development process.

    Work with direct reports to set individual performance and development goals, tracking progress against goals, and provide mid-year and annual progress reviews.

    As part of Secondary Market leadership, actively contribute in setting team strategies, identifying operational impacts, and managing the overall team to achieve established goals.

    Act as a change agent to drive Self-Help's economic inclusion initiatives by integrating supplier diversity and the use of businesses owned by women and people of color in third party contracting and vendor management for relevant products and services Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary.


    WHAT You'll NEED:
    Bachelor's degree in business or related field OR equivalent related experience.
    Master's degree or equivalent related experience preferred Seven years home lending and secondary market related experience and/or training. Relationship development, sales, and negotiation skills Experience in Affordable housing and management preferred. Strong commitment to our mission - creating economic opportunity for traditionally underserved communities. Preference for working in organizations that place priority on teamwork and collaboration. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

    Excellent leadership skills with a proven ability to lead, motivate, and supervise employees, as well as operate as a working manager with a hands-on approach.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and vendors across multiple locations throughout the US. Strong project management skills, including ability to set priorities and organize competing priorities while meeting deadlines. Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to present information in an effective manner. Ability to gather, organize, analyze and interpret information. Ability and willingness to work beyond normal work hours, as needed.
