    SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR

    Hot Springs Residential- Hot Springs, AR

    JOB SUMMARY
    To serve as a MHP service extender; assess the needs and facilitate the treatment of clients and
    their families; identifying potential barriers to short and long term recovery; acknowledges in
    writing that all substance abuse counselor and qualified behavioral health provider services are
    controlled by client care plans and provided under the direct supervision of the Director and
    supervision of a mental health professional (MHP).

    Qualifications
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
    satisfactorily in a timely manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the
    knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. As a Substance Abuse Counselor will complete QBHP
    training and must conform to the requirements for MHP supervision so as to work in an agency
    under MHP supervision. Must be knowledgeable of Electronic Health Record systems. Ability to
    manage multiple concurrent projects, analytical and problem-solving skills; and customer service
    skills. Must have knowledge of state rules and regulations; excellent time management,
    communication, and organizational skills.


    Education and/or Experience
    Certified or licensed in the state of Arkansas as Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor,
    Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor, Licensed
    Associate Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor, Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist or
    registered with the Arkansas Substance Abuse Certification Board (ASACB) as a Counselor in
    Training.

    The individual must be able to sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds.

    Job Duties

     Provide direct behavioral health care under the supervision of a mental health
    professional.
     Completes prescribed and documented courses of initial and annual training sufficient to
    perform all tasks assigned by a mental health professional.
     Ensure compliance and conformity to the provider's policies and procedures.
     Monitor programs to comply with state and CARF standards.
     Completes intakes, master treatment plans, process notes, group notes, aftercare plans,
    transition plans and all other required paperwork in a timely manner and with client involvement as appropriate

    Ensure compliance with quality treatment protocols.
     Conduct and document individual and group counseling sessions as scheduled.  Maintain client records to include documentation of progress as well as
    development, implementation, and monitoring of treatment plan.
     Coordinate case management appointments with outside agencies and transporters.
     Complete discharge procedure including documentation, aftercare planning and continuing
    care.
     Attend clinical treatment team meetings and learning labs.
     Maintain availability for clients.
     Assist in screening of prospective clients and admission of clients deemed appropriate
    for services.
     Conduct drug testing, to include gathering of specimen and completing documentation.
     Other duties as assigned


    If not certified or licensed, the completion of training in behavioral health services provision
    from a licensed medical person experienced in the area of behavioral health or a certified
    Behavioral Agency is required before providing care to Medicaid beneficiaries.


    If not certified or licensed, must complete an initial -40- hour classroom training to obtain a
    QBHP certificate. Ongoing training will consist of at least eight hours of training each 12
    month period. The training may, in part, be conducted in the field. Documentation of in-
    service hours will be maintained in the employee's personnel file and will be available for
    inspection by regulatory agencies.


    Per insurance, all employees must be 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license.

    Benefit package includes employee health and vision insurance ; paid PTO after 120 days, as well as ten paid holidays. There is access for dental insurance, life insurance and a 401K plan.
