    LOCATION
    This position is based at IYFs headquarters in Baltimore, MD, USA. However, this is a fully remote position and IYF will consider candidates based in Maryland, DC and Virginia.

    PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

    The Accounting Associate is a member of the Accounting unit in IYFs IT, Finance, Accounting and Award Management (iFAAM) department.

    iFAAM is a service-first department, providing high quality and responsive service for the internal and external needs of IYF as a global not-for-profit organization.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, accounting, administration, filing, and business-related activities.

    This is an entry level accounting position, ideal for candidates possessing attention to detail and accuracy with numbers and looking to gain experience in accounting.

    This position requires an individual with a service-first approach, positive team spirit, enthusiasm to integrate into a growing and highly dynamic team, and commitment to a collaborative approach in working as part of a global team.

    The accounting function is critical to supporting program delivery and IYFs mission.

    This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager and collaborates to perform assigned accounting functions up to the highest standards.


    This position communicates with a diverse staff in multiple locations using email, video and audio conference technology. This position must be able to communicate and collaborate effectively globally.

    CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsible for daily accounting administration support needs including, but not limited to, monitoring accounting mailbox, electronic filing and accounts payable support.

    Support accurate, timely and thorough payments to all IYF payees.

    Review supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness, as well as help to ensure compliance and consistency with stated policies and procedures.

    Support timesheet administration, review for timesheet completion and follow ups.
    Assist with month and year end closing as assigned by Global Accounting Manager.
    Process credit card transactions and support maintenance of recurring credit card tracker.
    Maintain finance files.

    Act as Travel Authorizer, being the liaison between staff, budget holders and the travel agency, ensuring compliance with stated policies and procedures throughout the process.

    Provide support and back up to other Accounting Team members.
    Provide regular and ad hoc information to the CFO, Controller and Accounting Manager related to accounting.
    Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the CFO, Controller and/or Accounting Manager.

    In addition, this position has an opportunity to develop, learn and grow in experience and skills to take on additional operations functions within the department, including intentional succession planning to Coordinator level (in Accounting, GFAM or AMU), after assuming all responsibilities listed above.


    REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma required.

    A Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration (with an emphasis in accounting or finance) would be a plus but is not required.

    Experience using Microsoft Office 365 and cloud-based collaborative software. Tech savvy mindset a plus.
    Proficiency using Microsoft Excel. IYF uses Excel heavily and it is an interface with most all cloud-based accounting and financial systems. Microsoft Excel is used daily for accounting, analysis and reporting.
    Proactive, creative, flexible, responsive, hands-on critical thinker with attention to detail and a passion for accuracy. Requires effective analytical and critical thinking skills.

    Ability to learn, work and perform independently as well as in a collegial manner, as a team player, in a remote working environment.

    Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines and competing priorities. Requires effective time management, prioritization and organizational skills.
    Oral and written English fluency is required. Proficiency in Spanish or other language is a plus.
