    Description

    Job Description:

    • Uses aseptic technique to draw blood cultures.
    • Processes specimens according to SOP.
    • Prepares collection containers with preservatives for patients and provides instructions for proper specimen collection at home.
    • Handles orders on minors and completes paperwork accurately.
    • Monitors inventory levels and replenishes supplies in phlebotomy room.
    • Recalls patients for follow-up procedures when necessary.
    • Utilizes LIS for all job duties.

    General Job Functions:

    • Checks in patients in satellite labs.
    • Processes specimens for transport to the main lab.
    • Contacts courier for pickups.
    • Performs and logs Rapid Strep and Hemoccult tests in the LIS.
    • Trains new staff in lab policies.
    • Other job duties as needed.

      • Physical Job Requirements:

      • Endurance for continuous typing and standing.

        • Environmental Risks:

        • Sharps.
        • Latex.
        • Dealing with combative patients or visitors.

          • Blood-borne Pathogens:

          • Exposure to infectious hazards and body fluids.
          • Contact with patients or specimens.
          • Possible unplanned exposure.

            • Education, Certification, and Training Requirements:

            • High School Graduate/GED required.
            • 0-1 years experience, 2-4 years preferred.
            • HeartSaver or Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
            • Strong communication and customer service skills needed.
            • Experience in patient scheduling preferred.
            • Experience with standard office equipment required.
            • Travel to satellite locations may be required.
