Job DescriptionThe American College of the Building Arts is seeking adjunct faculty applicants to teach one or all of the following courses:
Communications 101 (Fall semester, 2 sections, freshmen level)
- English 201 (Fall semester, 1 section, sophomore level)
- English 202 (Spring semester, 1 section, sophomore level)
These courses are the college's core English Literature and English writing courses and are required for all students. ACBA is a four year, liberal arts college in which students specialize in traditional building trades and architectural design, so the ability to introduce literary excerpts relevant to the built environment, and to introduce students to technical writing in addition to argument and rhetoric are a plus.
The primary responsibilities include administering courses, delivering instruction, evaluating student assignments/grading in accordance with ACBA's standards. Courses are taught in a traditional, in-person classroom setting.
Below are course descriptions from the current academic catalog:
COMM 101:
The course introduces the student to Composition based on Classical Rhetoric and focuses on argumentative writing. Research assignments are the focus at the end of the course. the course prepares students for the kinds of writing they are likely to encounter during their pursuit of a degree at ACBA.
ENGL 201:
The course introduces the student to the Western Literary Canon beginning with mythology and progressing through the Enlightenment. Composition is based on Classical Rhetoric and focuses on argumentative writing. Research assignments are the focus at the end of the course.
ENGL 202:
The course continues the study of the Western Literary Canon beginning with the Enlightenment and moving into the present day. Composition is based on Classical Rhetoric and focuses on research and analysis with some creative writing as well.
Qualifications:
This position requires a master's degree in English, or a master's degree in an affiliated field and three year's teaching experience plus 18 graduate level credit hours in English. Excellence in teaching as demonstrated through effective instructional strategies and techniques in the classroom is required.

Pay rate is set as $3000 per course taught during a semester. Each semester is 15 weeks long and each course is 150 minutes per week.
