    Summary Statement

    Responsible for dental personnel compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, protocols, procedures, best practices related to providing dental treatment, education, and supervision. Designs, develops, reviews, and implements dental department policies, protocols, and procedures that follow the most current accepted professional standards. Search for grant opportunities, prepare and submit grants, develop goals, objectives, and quality measures for activities. Act as liaison and lead for Oral Health Coalition or committees as assigned. Participating in community-based screening and prevention programs and other preventive dental activities.

    Essential Functions

    Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Performs dental examinations of teeth and surrounding tissue utilizing x-rays and medical history records to determine dental treatment needs.
  • Provides dental services including but not limited to cleaning, scaling, bonding, fillings, extractions, restorations, oral surgery, pulp therapy for root canal treatment, simple bridgework, crown work, partial dentures, and installs space maintainers and prepares procedures for orthodontic appliances.
  • Prescribes and dispenses medication as required.
  • Administers local anesthesia, analgesia and sedation.
  • Supervises, trains and evaluates clinic staff.
  • Writes statistical and/or evaluative reports.
  • Provides emergency dental services to members of the community.

  • Possession of a Delaware Dentist license or eligibility for a Delaware license.
