    Position Summary:

    Corporate Counsel of Labor & Employment will report to the Associate General Counsel (AGC) and has primary responsibility for all legal matters relating to

    labor, employment, benefits, immigration, and workplace safety laws.

    Essential Functions:

    • Advise company on day-to-day employment law issues to ensure company complies with various labor, employment, benefits, immigration, and workplace.
    • safety laws (including NLRA, Title VII, Section 1981, FMLA, ADA, AADEA, ERISA, and OSHA).
    • Advise company on medical leave issues and workers' compensation matters.
    • Advise company on termination of employment matters, including advising company of legal risks.
    • Advise HR on handling unemployment compensation claims.
    • Assist the company with drafting various employment policies and procedures.
    • Work with other Team Members of Legal & Compliance to conduct investigations, audits, and training in the areas of labor, employment, benefits,
    • immigration, and workplace safety laws.
    • Research legal issues relating to labor, employment, benefits, immigration, and workplace safety laws.
    • Track and report any developments in labor, employment, benefits, immigration, and workplace safety laws.
    • Handle a variety of litigation, arbitration, and mediation matters for the company (with emphasis on employment litigation and workers' compensation cases).
    • Oversee handling of garnishments, services of process, and subpoena responses. Coordinates with other Legal & Compliance Team Members to
    • accomplish departmental objectives.
    • Always display exemplary ethical behavior, including: (1) being free of undue influence and conflicts of interest; (2) strictly complying with HMMA policies and procedures; (3) being honest, transparent, and accountable; (4) report all known illegal or unethical behavior; and (5) protecting confidential information.
    • Administer, coordinate, and comply with all Business Management System (BMS), Environmental Management System (EMS), and Safety Management
    • System (SMS) requirements.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Associate General Counsel or General Counsel.

    Position Requirements:

    Education

    • Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA.
    • Accredited Law School required.

    Related Experience:

    • 6+ years of job-related experience
    • preferred, concentrating in labor
    • and employment law, preferably in
    • a law firm environment
    • representing and counseling
    • employers.

    • Excellent verbal and written skills

    Training / Certification

    • Member in Good Standing of the
    • Alabama State Bar (Attorney or
    • Authorized House Counsel)

    Additional Information:

    Position may require occasional travel (domestic or foreign). Flexibility in working hours to include weekends, holidays, and off shift. Position may require on-call duty or overtime due to overall responsibility.
