The scope of the role of the Head of Middle Division is to direct the day-to-day operations and strategically plan to ensure the success of our faculty, students, and families in the Middle Division grades 6-8.
Responsibilities
School Culture and School Operations
Understanding of and a commitment to Marburn Academy's Vision and Mission.
Conduct yourself in the presence of students, parents, donors, and visitors in a manner that models the Core Values and behaviors Marburn seeks to teach.
Consistently and effectively use the conflict resolution guidelines.Develop and sustain relationships with colleagues, parents, and members of the Marburn Academy community that are professional, collegial, and collaborative.
Manage confidentiality aspect of student, parent, and colleague relationships, and of internal Marburn affairs according to established school guidelines.Establish and maintain appropriate personal boundaries in relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Attend and participate in professional development opportunities.
Abide by all policies articulated in the Student and Employee Handbook and other school and board policies.
Represent and support the school at various functions, both internally and externally, relative to the role.
Effectively perform other duties assigned by the Head of School, Associate Head of School, and/or member of the Leadership Team.
Support the school and its leadership.Serve on school-wide and standing committees as needed.
Responsibilities
Build a robust, innovative, and sustainable program that supports our students and prepares them for their post-secondary experience.
Lead the Middle Division, responsible for its day-to-day operation; direct and support the activities of the faculty and staff in their duties and teaching.
Articulate the middle division's programs, philosophy, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed and consistent with their individual roles.
Be aware of the educational, physical, social, and psychological needs of our middle division students, and collaborate with the Dean of Students to develop plans for meeting those needs.
Inform and collaborate with the Head of School and Associate Head of School on issues and opportunities within the middle division program and activities.
Direct the coordination of co-curricular and extracurricular activities with the middle division; assist in the planning and presentation of school assemblies and programs; assist in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events; keep the entire school community informed of various school programs and activities.
Work with faculty and the Associate Head of School to support and retrain students and families.Prepare a master course schedule in coordination with the School Leadership Team.
Serve as a consultant to teachers in matters of teaching methods, classroom management, and general school policies and procedures.
Observe, supervise, and evaluate the Middle Division faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; supervise the teaching process; review, evaluate, and develop academic programs in collaboration with the Academic Dean.
Support students, staff, and parents in the orientation and induction into our community and program.Provide guidance and implement the grading and reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement.
Work with the Dean of Students to determine, communicate, and uphold the student code of conduct; maintain student discipline consistent with school policies and dress code.
Maintain timely and relevant communication with parents and facilitate faculty communication with parents.Assist in the interviewing and hiring of new faculty.
Ensure compliance with the legal requirements and maintain the educational standards established by the State of Ohio and ISACS.

Proficient with Google Workspace, Microsoft.
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant teaching or administrative experience preferably in an independent school.
Prior middle school experience strongly preferred.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree, Master's preferred in a related field of study.
Have and maintain licensure as required by the Ohio Department of Education or State of Ohio.
Successfully pass a background check (FBI, BCI, Sex Offender).
Physical Requirement
Ability to stand, and traverse for extended periods of time two plus hours or more.
Ability to visually detect, observe and recognize.
Verbally and audibly communicate and exchange information with the ability to position oneself to do so.
Ability to move, lift, and position:
Regularly up to 10lbs
Frequently up to 11lbs-30lbs
Occasionally over 30lbs
Rarely up to 50lbs with assistance as required
Hours
Monday-Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with the faculty member expected to be available, as needed, until 4:30 p.m. for meetings with parents, teachers, administrators, or other duties.
Fridays: 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for Faculty Professional Development.
Required to participate in certain activities within the scope of the role and division such as field
trips, afternoon or evening events, or weekend programs that will occur outside
of the regular daily hours mentioned above (e.g. Graduation, Voyageurs Trips, Middle Division, DC Trip, Curriculum Night, Parent Conferences, Discovery Nights, Dances, etc.)
