MedStar Health is seeking a dedicated and engaged Assistant Nursing Director to lead the Labor and Delivery (L&D) unit.As a member of our Division of Nursing's (DON) leadership/management team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of patient care in this specialized field.
Position OverviewIn collaboration with the Nurse Director the Assistant Nursing Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the L&D unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
The Assistant Nursing Director fosters associate'scommitment to improving quality, safety, and cost-conscious patient care outcomes.This role offers the chance to direct and coordinate the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel.
As a nursing leader, you will promote an environment that aligns with the Division of Nursing and MedStar Health's mission, vision, and values.
Unit HighlightsOur patient population ranges from individuals with uncomplicated deliveries to those with the most complex, high-risk medical and psychosocial issues.
These include patients with mild to severe preeclampsia, diabetes, kidney disease, cardiac disease, hematologic/oncologic disease, obesity, congenital disorders, etc.Working collaboratively with Children's National Medical Center, our "Special Moms, Special Babies" program coordinates the deliveries of babies requiring the immediate attention of the specialists at CNMC.
We are also a designated Baby-Friendly USA hospital, demonstrating our commitment to evidence-based practices for the maternal-newborn dyad.Our L&D unit has an interdisciplinary patient care team that consists of nurses, physicians, midwives, residents, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, equipment technicians and unit clerks.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn collaboration with the Nurse Director, develops department goals, objectives and ensures compliance with hospital policy and procedure, clinical practice, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
Provides shift-based clinical leadership through role modeling professional practice behaviors, proper delegation of activities, and management of the nursing team and promotes unit activities that enhance department satisfaction an engagement.
Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, Medical Staff, and leaders of other departments/disciplines to ensure seamless patient care.Participates in patient rounding to review patient status and connect with patient and family.
Collaborates with the Nursing Director in the hiring, evaluation, promotion, and termination of personnel within the department as needed and initiates coaching and counseling of associates.
Maintains clinical knowledge and skills and engages in the provision of direct care for a caseload of patients as required.
Assumes administrative responsibilities in absence of the director and as needed provides coverage for other colleagues.Why Join Us

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in nursing (Master's preferred)

DC RN License
·
Perinatal nurses (labor and delivery, antepartum, antenatal testing) must obtain certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 12 months from date of hire.
Approximately three to four years of progressively more responsible job-related experience
