    Construction Materials Engineering Technician - Entry Level

    S&ME is seeking individuals eager to build their career making an impact on construction projects and the community. Come join our Construction Services team as a Construction Materials Engineering Technician in Charlotte, North Carolina. No experience is needed.


    What You Will Do:

    As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician , you will make a difference The field testing and observations of construction materials you perform each day help ensure compliance with industry standards and project specifications. You will see construction projects from beginning to end, documenting the successful placement and use of soil, concrete, rebar, asphalt, aggregate, and other building materials. It is our job to make sure it is "built right", and at S&ME we take that responsibility very seriously. Join us and become part of the team that makes construction a success.


    Complete transparency, working outside (most of the time) isn't for everyone, and some projects are more spectacular than others. However, as you advance in your career, you will see more and more projects where you can say, "I helped them build that."


    Responsibilities can include:

    • Review construction plans and specifications to ensure seamless alignment with on-site observations
    • Conduct as well as observe testing and inspections of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials, to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards
    • Utilize advanced software like Metafield to document reporting and testing results
    • Calibrate equipment to industry standards to ensure precision in testing processes
    • Conduct Special Inspection observations to enforce regulatory compliance and quality assurance on projects
    • Maintain open communication with stakeholders to foster trust and transparency, driving success of our projects

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma/GED
    • 0-2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
    • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
    • Ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device

    Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

    You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

    • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
    • Walking over rough and uneven terrain
    • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
    • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
    • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
    • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
    • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
