    SUMMARY:
    The Systems Architect is expected to act as an expert technical resource for other IT staff. They will undertake complex projects requiring additional specialized technical knowledge.

    This person must be able to make well thought-out decisions, coordinate with users to determine requirements and ensure that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.

    This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing servers (Windows and Linux), associated software and related components to achieve high performance for various business applications while ensuring minimal downtime.

    This position will be responsible for administration of our Microsoft Exchange environment, VMware Infrastructure and backup environment.

    Additionally, the Systems Architect collaborates closely with the compliance team to ensure alignment with PCI standards, implements and monitors SIEM solutions, and enhances overall security posture.

    They also assist the Network Engineer with configuring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing our WAN/LAN and communication links.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    Act as a technical expert.

    Serve as a consultant to senior management and IT staff on new projects and long-term system strategies, ensuring technology meets business needs and is deployed and maintained as effectively as possible.

    Provide guidance and direction to project teams to ensure compliance with standards and best practices.

    Write proposals and documentation, act as a vendor liaison, make presentations to client audiences and peers, work with upper management, and work well with other departments in providing the services necessary for their work.

    Understand and adhere to security policies and guidelines. Monitor industry trends to ensure technology architecture is current with industry standards and new technology implementation.

    Lead the design, implementation, configuration, and monitoring of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions tailored to the organization's security requirements.

    Collaborate with the PCI compliance team to ensure adherence to PCI standards.

    Provide administrative support to the Director as required, including but not limited to the development of project plans and assistance with budgeting.

    Oversee design, implementation and administration of critical technologies, including:
    backups, VMware Infrastructure, storage and email environment.

    Manage our Microsoft Exchange environment including:

    installation, upgrades, troubleshooting, patching, backup and recovery, development and documentation of proceduresManage our VMware infrastructure including: installation, upgrades, troubleshooting, patching, backup and recovery, development and documentation of proceduresDocument and participate in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning and testing with regards to computing systems including management of backup environmentConsult with users, management and vendors to determine computing needs and system requirementsMonitor, analyze, and predict trends for storage equipment performance, space allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancementsLead design process for network connectivity to cloud services such as Azure.

    Plan, execute and implement new system hardware and software and create and maintain technical documentationDrive continuous improvement of server infrastructure to maximize system availability, performance, flexibility and business continuity.

    Coordinate and perform routine operating system and application maintenance to ensure a stable, reliable and secure environmentAssist with support and maintenance of Windows Domain ServersAssist with installing, configuring, managing and ensuring optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, UPSs, etc.

    Take ownership over projects and responsibilities and resolve issues proactivelyManage multiple projects, activities and tasks simultaneouslyEvaluate project plans and proposals to assess feasibility issuesRespond to customer requests via a help desk systemActively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experienceOther duties as assigned.


    INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
    This position will primarily provide support for employees in Providence, Pawtucket and Washington D.C. but on occasion may be required to provide support to Ann Arbor employees.

    Positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate well with management, peers and staff are important in this position.

    This position will also help manage outside vendor relations including:
    vendor selection, scheduling of product demo and soliciting of quotes for products and services as necessary
