    Description
    Conducts Medical Nutrition Therapy for individuals and families.

    Responsible for participating in a program that assures quality nutrition care is provided to patients that is age appropriate, consistent with hospital policy and in accordance with the requirements of the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies.


    • Provides appropriate initial and follow-up Medical Nutrition Therapy for referred clients of various age groups, religious, ethnicity and socio-economic status.
    • Plans and implements group programs, community and employee lectures and workshops.
    • Develops and implements advertising and promotional plans under the direction of the Site Manager.
    • Establishes and maintains effective relationships, including written and verbal communication, with medical staff and other health care professionals.
    • Establishes and maintains effective professional and confidential relationships with patients.
    • Establishes and maintains effective public relations image in order to promote the profession of nutrition in the community.
    • In order to maintain competency, develops ongoing program of self-education in the area of specialization, through continuing education activities, such as reviewing technical journals and publications, attending conventions, professional meetings and conferences and reporting on these through in-services to other dietitians.
    • Guidelines and therapeutic references relevant to nutrition care are updated to reflect industry best practices.
    • Remains current in the area of third-party reimbursement as it relates to coverage for Medical Nutrition Therapy.
    • Performs independently within the scope of department goals, policies, and objectives. Refers problems or questions regarding operating policy to the Site Manager.
    • Additional work activities are carried out to meet stated expectations.

    Education/Degree

    Required


    • Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition or Food Services Management required.

    Experience

    Required


    • Minimum 1 year clinical nutrition experience.

    Licensure

    Required


    • Current registration or registration-eligible member of the American Dietetic Association.
    • Current Massachusetts licensure.

    Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)

    • Effective verbal, electronic and written communications skills using the English language
    • Maintain variable work schedule to provide patient care as needed. (evenings, holidays, weekends and travel).
    • Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.
