- Supervises a group of subordinate electrical inspectors engaged in enforcement activities.
- Oversees the examination of construction plans and specifications, assigns and reviews reports of inspections, advises subordinates on problems encountered and makes decision on interpretation of pertinent legislation and departmental policies and regulations.
- Trains new employees in their duties, and reviews in detail the performance of new employees to determine their progress.
- Reviews and approves notices of violations.
- Performs special investigations and prepares reports on findings and recommendations.
- Examines plans and specifications for compliance with code requirements.
- Serves as the liaison with contractors, property owners, engineers, architects, and others relative to code requirements, notices of violations, and complaints.
- Recommends and assists superiors in the preparation and revision of codes, ordinances, regulations, and reports.

- High School graduation or G.E.D.
- Three (3) years of experience in inspection activities with a municipal agency.
- Employees in this class will be required to provide and operate a motor vehicle on a reimbursed mileage basis; Valid State of Michigan Operator License.
- Valid Journeyman or Master Electrician License required.
- Successful applicants certified to positions in this class must acquire and maintain registration as an inspector and/or plan reviewer as required by Act No. 54 of State of Michigan Public Acts 1986.

BUILDINGS, SAFETY ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT
SUPERVISING ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR

The BSEED mission is to provide for the safety, health and welfare of the general public as it pertains to buildings and their environs in an efficient, cost-effective, user-friendly and professional manner.
BSEED enforces construction, property maintenance, environmental compliance and zoning codes, which preserve and enhance property values and promote quality of life to make Detroit a preferred place to reside and conduct business.
Under general supervision, inspects electric lighting, heat, power and fire alarm installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes and City of Detroit ordinances, approved plans and accepted standards and methods of work. Examines plans for compliance with applicable codes, laws and ordinances for the approval of an application for permits.
