- Provides computational assessments of the necessary engineered and administrative controls to implement safe radiological operations at the institution
- Under general supervision, provides radiological safetyrelated technical support, technical assistance and guidance on basic radiological control problems, recommending corrective actions (including changes in the work environment) when necessary. Such support may include radiation monitoring and contamination control, performing basic personnel and facility radiation exposure measurements, performing radiation equipment testing, providing engineered controls, performing preliminary dose or shielding calculations, and performing radioactive materials and waste measurements
- Provide facility, equipment, and system design input required to achieve ALARA; and
- Perform shielding, dose, and ALARA costbenefit analyses using radiation transport codes and other methods.
- Understands and adheres to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to radiological protection/safety; participates in interpreting such regulations to determine Laboratory compliance, and assists in implementation of those requirements
- Conducts basic radiation protection research and develops reports to ensure and maintain the excellence of the Laboratory's radiation protection program; may also develop and apply cutting edge technologies to enhance radiation protection practice and performance and, where appropriate, to benefit industry
- Provide radiological safetyrelated technical support, technical assistance and guidance on basic radiological control problems, recommend corrective actions (including changes in the work environment), provide engineering controls, and perform dose or shielding calculations;
- Provide technical guidance to radiation protection technicians and other staff;
- Act as a lead person or technical advisor on small to medium projects related to radiation protection;
- Assist in ensuring all radiological protection work, materials, processes and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
- Communicate major elements of radiological safety/protection to both technical and nontechnical personnel.
- Entry-level knowledge of the technical principles, theories, concepts and techniques of health physics.
- Entrylevel experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting radiological safety/protection.

- Demonstrated experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting radiological safety/protection.

- Demonstrated experience working with applicable RP software (e.g. Monte Carlo or Deterministic Transport codes)
- Proficiency with CAD modeling software (e.g. AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, SpaceClaim)
- Working knowledge of Operational Health Physics, especially related to plutonium or accelerator facilities
- MS in Health Physics, Radiation Protection or related field

Radiation Protection Programs (RP-PROG) is looking for qualified individuals to join their group at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The successful candidate will work within RP-PROG's Radiological Engineering (RE) program.
This position will be filled at either the Health Physicists 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Health Physicist 1:
$90,000 - $147,100
As a Health Physicist 1 (HP) within RP-PROG the successful candidate will apply standard health physics principles, theories, concepts and techniques to support laboratory needs and develop professional expertise, especially relating to the following tasks.
Health Physicist 2:
$99,200 - $164,100
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, as a Health Physicist 2 (HP) within RP-PROG the successful candidate will apply standard health physics principles, theories, concepts and techniques to support laboratory needs and develop professional expertise, especially relating to the following tasks.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
