    NURSE RETENTION COORDINATOR

    DEPARTMENT: Nursing Administration

    CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

    $20,000 sign-on bonus plus relocation assistance available

    JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the overall design, implementation, and on-going oversite of the nursing staff retention strategy. Partners with Training and Development on nursing core orientation and nurse residency programs. Partners with nursing leadership to implement retention strategies. Serves as a mentor for the nursing staff. Participates actively with interdisciplinary, collaborative task forces and committees.

    MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

    The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.

    1. Partners with key roles across the healthcare system to assess onboarding of new nursing staff to identify ways to increase engagement, thus increasing retention.

    2. Acts as a support resource for the nursing care team, to include unit secretaries, CNAs, Comfort Runners, Sitters, LPNs and RNs.

    3. Provides or coordinates engagement activities to increase engagement and retention for the nursing care team throughout the healthcare system.

    4. Provides ongoing support for staff, nursing students, nursing managers, and others within the multi-disciplinary team by rounding on staff at all locations on a weekly basis.

    5. Communicates effectively with employees, physicians, guests, and coworkers. Provides feedback in a constructive manner.

    6. Assesses learning needs of the graduate nursing staff on the assigned units in the support of residency programs.

    7. Works with unit clinical educators to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate unit-based orientation and other educational programs that help drive retention and engagement.

    8. Incorporates appropriate resource utilization, to include operational and capital resources and data collection retrieval and analysis.

    9. Participates in Councils, Committees, Task Forces and Work Groups at the unit, department, hospital, and corporate level.

    10. Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification and is not to be considered as all inclusive.

    QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirement necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

    Education and Formal Training: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.

    Work Experience: At least 5 years as a Registered Nurse with at least one year in a specialty. Classroom teaching experience and

    certification in specialty area desirable.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to function within the organizational

    structure. Ability to work effectively as a team member as well as working and planning independently. Ability to mentor and effect positive

    change. Strong knowledge in adult education. Demonstrate credentials as an instructor level status in nursing requirements and other areas as

    assigned.

    Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, bending, and lifting. Able to carry and manipulate equipment, work variable hours as needed.

    Must be flexible in use of time and physical space. Must possess auditory and visual acuity to accurately perform job functions. Must be able to

    communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
