    Entry-Level Substation FACTS/HVDC Engineer - Temporary

    Job Summary

    POWER Engineers is seeking a Temporary Entry-Level Substation FACTS/HVDC Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Portland office located in Lake Oswego, Oregon, for the summer of . Gain hands-on experience with Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) and High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) projects. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employees must live within driving distance of the office).

    Responsibilities

    The Temporary Entry-Level Substation FACTS/HVDC Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving its department goals, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.

  • Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including, but not limited to: One-line diagramsSchematicsWiring diagramsSCADACommunicationsStation physical layoutsSections/ElevationsCable and conduit plans and detailsGround grid design and detailsFoundation plans and detailsStructural plans and detailsControl enclosure design and detailsLightning protection plansYard lighting plansBills of MaterialsSite visits
  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients
  • Shall learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs
  • Occasional travel
  • Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering), BSREE (BS Renewable Energy Engineering), or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree from an accredited university, preferably with a power option
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering to build on
  • Must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
  • Desired Education/Experience

  • At least three months of relevant electrical engineering work experience; could be on an internship or co-op basis
  • Minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Knowledge of electrical utility substations and familiarity with substation design
  • Engineer In Training certificate (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
