    Position description:

    The Lead General Maintenance/Utility Worker executes day-to-day facilities operations in a large congregational setting. The services provided by this position include general building maintenance, hospitality, event set-up, groundskeeping, safety and security, and custodial.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Coordinates and performs responsive, preventive and routine maintenance.
    • Coordinates and completes room and event set-up and take-down.
    • Provides customer service support for the Facility Services Team and is the on-site representative for congregational, staff, vendor and outside group coordination.
    • Ensures safety and security of facilities (e.g., doors are locked, exits are marked, lights are operational, fire exits are clear for travel, storage is organized).
    • Assists the Facility Services Director in quality control, employee training and scheduling, and supply inventory control.
    • Coordinates and performs routine and project cleaning.
    • Ensures facilities are open and closed per facility operating schedule.
    • Maintains exterior facilities (e.g., lawns, gardens, sidewalks, parking lots).
    • Responds to facility emergencies during off-hours.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Services Director.

    Knowledge and skills desired:

    • Minimum high school graduation or equivalent.
    • Hold a valid Minnesota driver's license.
    • Hold a valid Minnesota 1st Class C boiler's license.
    • Successfully passed a criminal background check.
    • General knowledge and skills in proper use of facilities services equipment including: materials handling equipment, snow removal equipment, event/display tables, chairs, AV equipment and hand and power tools.
    • General knowledge and skills in proper methods and operation of building maintenance systems.
    • General knowledge of cleaning and safety procedures related to hazardous chemicals and be able to read and understand labels.
    • Ability to communicate in verbal, written and electronic form.
    • Ability to safeguard keys and alarms.

    Working Conditions and Equipment:

    • The incumbent in this position will have exposure to some risks as required by the nature of work related to facilities operations (e.g., extreme heat and cold, heights, climbing ladders, hazardous chemicals/materials, equipment noise, medium lifting of 50 pounds and use of power tools).
    • The incumbent in this position will operate general maintenance equipment and tools.
    • The incumbent in this position will operate mechanized cleaning equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, and bathroom cleaning machine)
    • The incumbent in this position is expected to work an evening and weekend schedule.
