    Sacred Heart Greenwich has been empowering girls and young women since 1848 in a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education.     We aim to form students of faith, intellect, and awareness, who will use their gifts in service to others. Relationship and mentoring are at the heart of the student experience, which is grounded in student centered learning, inquiry, problem solving, interdisciplinary connection, collaboration, and an understanding of social justice. Student leadership and well-being are connected to every academic discipline, as all full-time teachers are also grade level advisors.

    The school offers a coed program for young children at the Barat Center for Early Childhood Education and then an all-girls experience from K-12 on our 110-acre campus in Greenwich, Connecticut. We are proudly part of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools.

    We are currently seeking an Upper School Learning Specialist to join in the vision of our Upper School for the school year.

    Position: Upper School Learning Specialist
    Reports to: Head of Upper School
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    Duration: 10 months

    Job Summary

    The Upper School Learning Specialist is responsible for meeting the needs of individual students through academic support and educating faculty on the needs of neurodivergent learners. This position coordinates with the Head of Upper School, the Upper School Academic Deans, Faculty and Parents.

    Essential Functions

    Provide support to girls for whom the diagnosis of a learning difference has been shared with the school.

    Interpret educational evaluations and make appropriate recommendations, and develop an educational plan.

    Attend Upper School team meetings and help create and ensure academic action plans are executed.

    Work with the faculty to design and implement lesson plans to meet the needs of students and their learning styles.

    Additional Key responsibilities:

    Observe the learning needs of all students in grades and make appropriate recommendations to parents and teachers.

    Maintain contact with parents, teachers, outside tutors or other support personnel to implement recommended learning accommodations and coordinate services.

    Support teaching staff by offering resources, advice, and training to enable faculty to better meet the needs of all learners.

    Keep teachers thoroughly informed of the student's specific learning needs and how they can be managed within the classroom.

    Conduct meetings with and prepare written summaries of the educational evaluations for each teacher emphasizing the specific accommodations that can be implemented into the regular classroom setting.

    Attend grade level meetings with faculty.

    Help content area teachers differentiate their curriculum.

    Create, maintain, and update individual student learning profiles.

    Assist in reviewing and analyzing standardized testing.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years experience, a Masters degree in Special Education or related field, and experience working with upper-school aged students is preferred.

    Broad understanding of the research around learning differences, neurodiversity, and effective learning strategies.

    The candidate should be able to provide lesson plans and a portfolio of assignments that reflect current and research-supported educational practices.

    Candidate is energetic, approachable, knowledgeable, and eager to be an active member of a dynamic learning community.
