    Requirements:
    • Valid and active CA Physician license from CA Medical Board/Osteopathic Board
    • BE/BC in psychiatry from ABPN, AOBNP, or RCPSC
    • At least 12 consecutive months of performing similar services within the last 3 years
    • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certification
    Responsibilities:
    • Conduct face-to-face interviews and crisis interventions with mentally ill patient-inmates/youths, including those in multi-tiered housing units. Climb stairs and walk long distances when necessary.
    • Perform initial mental health evaluations, including criminal, psychiatric, and substance abuse case history, to assess inmate's/ward's current needs and recommend treatment.
    • Conduct clinically sound suicide risk evaluations, applying protocols, reviewing data, and documenting appropriately. Consult as needed.
    • Participate in Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) meetings.
    • Document all patient-inmate/ward care, including face-to-face contacts and IDTT meetings.
    • Monitor inmate/ward progress using SOAPE-formatted progress notes.
    • Apply community psychiatric treatment standards and ethical practices effectively.
    • Perform mental status exams in face-to-face clinical interviews.
    • Identify relevant signs and symptoms of medical/psychological disorders for comprehensive diagnosis and assessment.
    • Examine prior mental health records and other available documents to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
    • Review psychiatric patient records to assess treatment progress and effectiveness.
    • Consult with supervising psychiatrist on complex cases and present at clinical conferences as needed.
    • Provide clinical consultation to psychiatric staff for complex cases.
    • Prescribe appropriate medications and follow Correctional Formulary or obtain non-formulary approval.
    • Interpret laboratory results and refer to medical services as necessary.
    • Determine needed psychiatric and general medical treatment.
    • Prescribe treatment changes when indicated.
